A young man, no older than 25, approaches you with a smile and an extended hand."Hey, I'm Jake. Nice to meet cha'"The man named Jake shakes your hand with a big smile and hands you the letter S. You look at him obviously confused. Jake reaches in his back pocket and hands you a paper. The paper reads... You have just received a special letter. Please come to the local park off of 6th street with your letter at 3 o' clock for a special surprise. Thanks and keep your head up. You're doing just fine. -Jake You stare at him puzzled and he laughs. "Just come, I'm sure you'll like it. So.. Will you come?" You can't help yourself. You nod yes and watch as he wanders off with a big grin. You kinda feel bad for him knowing some people in your town have cruel hearts and will never show up or will shoot him down. You sigh and walk home to go get ready for the 'surprise' ********************************************************** You arrive at the park a few hours later to see Jake and 15 other people. You see all of the other people have their letters and are smiling and chatting. There is a snack table set up and light music plays from a boom box. Jake walks up to you and smiles "Awesome! You came! I'll take your letter. Come have a seat up front." You follow his gaze and take a seat up front. There are exactly 16 chairs.. You wonder for a moment how he knew 16 people would show up. You shrug it off and watch as Jake tapes everyone's letters up on the back of the concession stand. You look around and see puzzled faces just like yours as Jake begins to speak.. "Thank you all for coming out today! Behind me on this board, I have taped all of your letters up. They obviously spell 'Sweet Serendipity' that which means good fortune, or luck. I have chosen each of you because you looked like your days have seen better. I just want you all to know that I'm here for you. I've been through some bad times myself, but I got over the troubles and found myself jumping in a pile of good luck lately and something told me to spread the luck around and that's what I'm doing! Just forget about the bad and embrace all the good that's been happening to you lately." "What's your story kid? Obviously gotta be a reason for you ta be doin' all this stuff for us here folks." You look at an old man in his 50's that spoke up. The small crowd begins to murmur quietly and Jake speaks up again. "Good question. When I was coming out of school and into the real world, I realized it was pretty tough living out here alone. I was constantly fired, my house was horrid, I was always mean and I wasn't exactly the best-looking guy either... But after a while, I realized that if I kept focusing on the bad, only bad would come. So I started giving what little I could spend to charities and soon I came up with a nice job and plenty of spending money. I paid for another person's lunch and the next day someone paid for mine. The luck just spread around and I loved it! I don't ask for a lot, No nothing more than I need Because I love what I got I Don't need to play the lottery. I just want to be strong, At the end of the road I don't want to hold on, I want the strength to let go. And I'm doing just fine, I'm always landing on my feet in the nick of time and by the skin of my teeth. I ain't gonna stress cause the worst ain't happened yet. His words have touched your heart and left a mark on your soul. Going home you find a 20 dollar bill lying on the ground. Picking it up, you smile and whisper "Sweet Serendipity"
