Like the phoenix, I shall rise from the ashes and light this world on fire.

He once had a name that people avoided to mention. He was feared among his peers as a ruthless ruler. No one dared anger him for doing so, could mean your life. He was a tyrant, a glutton, and liked to put his people to the death over trivial things.

He was assassinated not even a few years into his rule. They had buried him in a stone coffin, hidden deep within the catacombs in an unmarked grave. The kingdom was better off without him, so eventually, they forgot all about him like a bad dream. But unknown to them, he had been into witchcraft and dark magics. So when they killed him, they didn't actually kill him. The opposite happened in fact. For someone who knew he was hated, he made sure he had an insurance policy.
If he were to be killed, his soul would continue to be attached to his body. There were setbacks of course. Like how his body would decay and rot just like normal corpse, and that he was stuck under a giant slab of stone that he neither had the power, or the strength to move by himself. So, while he felt his body decay, he waited. For he knew that eventually, someone would find his tomb, raid it, and possibly move the cover to his sarcophagus so he could rule the lands once again with an iron fist and a cold heart.
So he waited. And while he waited the had the chance to think. He had the chance to think, for a long, long, time.

When one is trapped in their own private hell, waiting for someone to come along, you end up not really knowing how much time passes by. Aside from that, he had plenty of time to conjure up many ways to destroy civilizations and conquer the world. And with no one to talk to and nothing to do, he had plenty of time to go insane.

"Dude, we found it! This stuff has got to be worth millions!" Two men in excavation gear had just entered a small chamber buried beneath the sands to find a modest amount of gold trinkets, chairs, statues, and weapons piled on the floors and each other. It did look a little crowded, considering the size of the room. But these grave robbers didn't care, they just wanted the goods.
One man took his lantern to explore the next room while his buddy shoved items in a bag. He found that the next room was empty save for a sarcophagus. "Hey, Walt, look what's in here. Think it has more stuff inside?"
Walt grinned greedily. "I bet it does. Read that sarcophagus' always have something besides a body inside. Let's open 'er up!" The two took crowbars to the lid, cracking it open to reveal a crudely prepared mummy. And the classic items buried with royalty. Walt quickly bagged the items while his friend went to put the lid back on. Where he noticed something odd
"Look at this... I think that guy was buried alive or somethin'. There's claw marks all over the underside of this lid." He stared at them for a bit, but shrugged it off. Nothing to do with him.
"Uh, Dave?"
"Yeah Walt?"
He stared wide eyed at his friend Dave. "Does this bugger look like he's breathin' to you?"
Dave walked over, clearly his friend was seeing things. It's just a mummy. It's been dead for hundreds of years. Though when he got near, something did look a little off. "No way, it's probably just the air movin' the linens. Don't be so jumpy." Dave leaned in closer to inspect the mummy, only to see it open its eyes and stare straight at him.
If there had been anyone outside, or just close by, they would have heard their screams of absolute terror coming from that chamber. And if they had been able to read the enscription on the door, they would have known not to ever open that door. For it read ; Tomb of Khanatsuun'anenra. Do not open, or suffer the wrath of the cursed king. Open his prison, and be consumed.
For the fools who opened his tomb, it was with great honor that they sacrificed themselves to the body known as Khanatsuun'anenra. With this sustenance, he was finally able to have the strength to leave his dusty prison and join the world. How long the world will last depends on how many people offer themselves to him to be consumed so he could regrow his body. The world hopes none. He hopes for hundreds.
