Druin knew it wasn't perfect, but this was the most secure room she'd found. The nearest safe house was too far away to reach by nightfall. She wiped the blood from her face with an old T-shirt and sat down on the floor. 284 today alone, that made the tally 1,326 since the infection.

It had been a week since she'd seen a human who wasn't trying to rip her apart, it was beginning to feel like the machete was growing from her hand. She almost couldn't stand to let go of it. It was hours before exhaustion finally over took her and she settled into an uneasy sleep.
