I don't remember where I am from, not originally anyway, but I remember some things, I remember a sound, a gasping, whirring noise that took me away from the problems of my world. And see how we ran, across the universe, through time and space. I was his companion and he was my-- I don't remember. Something happened. I'm not sure what. And now all I remember are pieces of it. A blue box that contained the whole of the universe, scary monsters who were really just servants, a girl who waited, a boy who was once a plastic doll. I remember them all, but the names are gone. And through them all, this one figure, this one amazing figure. We ran, oh, how we ran. He said he would be back.
They think I got this color because I'm sad. Because something bad happened. But no, something did happen, somehow I got separated from him and the blue box, and I fell and I fell, for a long time, and when I woke up I was in the caves, I wasn't the lain I was before I flew away with the man in the box. Wormhole was just a little lain when he crash-landed on atebus. He spent a while living in the caves. One day a man in a strange suit came to get him and put him in a small cage and put him in the ship back to Subeta. Instead of getting released when he reached there, he found himself in a large room, there were hundreds of other pets, each one separated from the others by fences, and some of them had been there a long time. Someone had called it a pound. He was so sad that he curled up in a small box, and fell asleep.
It was then that he heard her voice for the first time. "What about that one?"
"He's just a Lain. Nothing really special. They pulled him out of the caves on Atebus, saying that he was annoying the visitors. Poor guy probably didn't know that he was some place he shouldn't have been."
A pair of hands gently coaxed him out of the box and held him close to her. "He's beautiful, I think he will fit right in with the house."
"With your...other pets, don't you think a Lain is a bad choice?"
"Tigress?"
Tigress just put her nose down on the lain "Why would I chase him. He'll probably sleep with Eloquent."
No one noticed immediately that his feathers had taken on the colors of the rainbow. It wasn't until Elle had gotten him home that she noticed the fact that his feathers, after being in the caves for so long sparkled like the Gems of the caves.
