A voice, hypnotic and commanding. But there was weight on his chest, arms, face. Holding him down. Surrounding him. He couldn't breathe, even if he wanted to.

Breathe in, Teranse.

No. Better that he lie here in the dirt like the failure he was. He'd lost the battle, lost the war... Lost his best friend, and his own life. Why couldn't he simply rest in peace?

You have work to do. Breathe in.

He was dead - what work could he possibly do?! Buried six feet under in the middle of no-man's-land, no one knew where his body was - and if they did, they wouldn't be anyone who cared.

Shock made him breathe in, and flames licked the inside of his ribcage, restoring long-decomposed organs and muscles. Another breath, and he flexed his limbs, dirt drying out and crumbling as the flames engulfed his entire body, rebuilding and healing. Another stretch, and he remembered the spell to cause a Minor Tremor. Spitting out the phrase filled his mouth with dirt, and for a horrible moment he though it hadn't worked.

Then, the earth set to a bone-shuddering rumble, and he scrambled desperately for the surface. Dirt fell away under his claws, until he was sprawled over a grassy knoll, panting. Free. Alive.

He took a long moment to simply relax, peering around at his former burial ground. Violet and orange streaked the sky; either sunrise or sunset, then. Fitting. Now, didn't the thing who brought him back mention something about a child..?
