PERSONALITY
There is much more to Sangmin than meets the eye. Though seemingly an average Korean boy, his story is different than most and is full of hardships. He does not trust anyone, due to many fallouts between friends and lovers. Because of this, very few people know anything real about him at all, and he'd like to keep it that way. Though noble in his intent of not wanting to burden others with his sorrow, his methods of release are unhealthy-usually drinking.
On the surface, though, he is very light and happy. His two closest friends are both girls, Seohyun and Rae. In fact, for the most part all of his friends are girls, he has quite a large feminine side. Sangmin is incredibly picky about what he wears, owning only white shirts and black pants because "they look best"ï¿½. Before he leaves his apartment every morning he must be looking perfect-hair and face washed, teeth brushed sparkling, clothes unwrinkled, and wearing enough cologne to smell him from 10 feet away.
Constantly on the phone, Sangmin seems to have tons of friends, although in reality the same people just call him multiple times a day. He gets irritated easily, especially with Rae, and often storms off in the middle of conversations. Where exactly he goes is unknown to his friends because he always manages to return within a half hour, acting completely normal once more. He's been in love once, and is known to be a heartbreaker, able to get over a nine month relationship in a matter of three days.
Sangmin prefers to keep his emotions to himself, though, for the most part. His older sister was diagnosed with leukemia when he was fifteen. This put an enormous amount of stress and worry on his family so Sangmin decided that he would move out. He went to China where he quickly picked up the language, living as an exchange student in Beijing for a year. His life in Beijing was so different from that in Korea! There was no drinking age in China so he found himself often holding a beer bottle with his newfound foreign companions. His friends were mostly from Europe, his English was also beginning to improve.
The next year he chose to change schools, though staying in China. He moved to the city of Changsha, which is much more rural a city by China's standards, and enrolled at Tongshenghu International Experimental School. He got an apartment in the teacher's dorms and went to classes in the International Department, which were mostly in English. Sangmin became close with one of the foreign English teachers, a Canadian named Brett, who soon became his legal guardian in China.
