Lullaby is a wise and always hungry bat that lives in the library of Centropolis. He loves books and feeds on them - and this is to be taken literally! Because he is blind like all bats he can't read the books with his eyes. Eating them is his way of taking in the knowledge and at the same time his stomach is filled. He also has the ability to see a bookâ€™s content by using his ultrasound. But by this he is not able to remember it later. Only eating the letters makes him remember all the stories written down.

Maybe one reason why he is so eager to learn is the fact that he has no memories of his past. One night he fell from the sky right onto the library stairs where Alexander found him. He could not remember what happened before or what his name was, but he had an increasing hunger for knowledge. This is why Alex took the little bat with him.He named him Lullaby of Stars, because when the bat is about to sleep he makes soft sounds that resemble a song which seems to have an affect on the stars â€“ they shine brighter.

Of course the ontra could not allow that Lullaby ate every book he could get his wings on. But from time to time he gives him old books or books that are twice in stock of the library. And every evening he reads one of the books Lullaby has collected to the little bat. They are always the same books, because Lullaby forgets them as soon as he is fallen asleep.
