So many times I've tried
But I'm still caged inside...
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself!
Dalia Cotterill was, once, normal, pure, untainted. She didn't have many friends, but she was happy. Most of the time she just did her own thing - most people thought she was weird, so she usually just went around school silently, not saying much and expressing herself with her odd fashion sense. Perhaps the most abnormal thing about her, though, was her strange affinity with Matter. She loved them, and it seemed that they loved her, too. Dalia had heard stories of people getting Tainted by Matter, and it terrified her... but she couldn't keep away. Most nights, she climbed out of her window, and went to a nearby field where many types of Matter gathered.
They came to her, surrounding her, and though she was careful not to let them get too close, she couldn't help herself - she often held them, and they left marks, which she started to hide with bandages, telling anyone who asked that she had injured herself. No one suspected a thing.
Or so she thought. Unknown to Dalia, a certain evil Feli had been watching her for some time. The Malticorn's odd connection with Matter interested her, in a sinister way.
One day, a new student transferred into Dalia's school; a Lasirus, by the name of Doku. He, too, was interested in Matter, and he was quick to befriend the young Malticorn. She didn't think anything of it - after all, a lot of people liked Matter. He just happened to be another one.
It wasn't long before they became the best of friends, and naturally, Dalia decided to tell Doku about the field. After all, he loved Matter too, it only made sense. He showed up at her bedroom window that night, and they snuck out together, finding the field easily. Dalia was beside herself with happiness, in the place she loved so much, with the person that she was starting to feel a certain kind of affection towards.
Unfortunately, her happiness was not to last. Doku seized hold of her suddenly, preventing her from moving; before she could truly understand what was going on, everything went pitch-black, and a cold, almost amused voice rang in her ears.
"Well, well.. I suppose I was not so foolish to trust you after all, Poison."
The Feli went on to introduce herself as Akane Shizuku, while Doku cowered behind her. Dalia never saw him again. Akane proceeded to make Dalia's life hell, subjecting her to various tortures seemingly for her own amusement. Akane went on to somehow fuse Dalia permanently with the many different types of Matter she kept around, removing almost all of her memories and much of her free will... solely because she wanted to see what would happen.
Doku was actually one of Akane's familiars, Poison, a bat who could switch between animal and anthropomorphic forms at will. Unknown to both Akane and Dalia, Doku felt conflicted over what he had done to the Malticorn, and confused about how he felt about her. He watched these tortures go on for a while, until one day, he could no longer stand it. Poison secretly made it possible for the Malticorn girl to escape, keeping himself hidden from her as he couldn't face her.
Ever since then, she's been wandering the world, lost and confused and usually barely in control of herself, fighting with the Matter possessing and corrupting her. She can no longer remember much of who she used to be, including her original name, and started calling herself 'Miya' instead. She remembers she loved - loves - Matter, and that she had a friend named Doku who betrayed her, and brought her to the evil Feli Akane Shizuku. Miya lives in fear of Akane finding and recapturing her, and rarely stays in one place for too long as a result.
