Created by a simplistic but brilliant man, out of spare parts and scraps of metal, Aerus came to life on the thirteenth of April - a grubby, mismatched side-project of an impoverished inventor. The tiny, metal bird was far from perfect, of course. His movements were clunky, and he had no way to communicate with his creator, but he was... alive, almost.

Needless to say, communication was difficult in the early days; the young bird had no understanding of simple language and his creator had little time to teach it of such things. For a brief spell, the inventor simply resorted to basic hand gestures, which occasionally got the point across.

The featherless avian project was undoubtedly a success, but its fruition had to remain a well-kept secret. The mineral that bestowed Aerus with simulated thought and movement was highly valuable; even in minute amounts, the ore within the bird was bound to draw the attention of scavengers for its black market value. As such, the inventor kept his new companion locked within his study. Visitors, few as they were in number, were not to know of his presence either, the metallic creature hiding amongst the stacks of books as his creator's request.
