He woke with a gasp. Eyes looking around, right hand sneaking for the gun under the pillow...
After a few heartbeat the nightmare induced haze of fear dissipated, leaving him dizzy with adrenaline. It's okay. I'm not there. I'm sitting on a bed not on the bloody, dusty tiles of the Heroes Square.
He was shaking a little as he pulled his knees to his chest, hugging them tightly. Once he hoped the dreams will fade, but the doctors weren't that optimistic. They were right. Years after, it's still that chaotic war zone with humans and monsters, blood and pain...

The June of 2008 was a miserable month. Before that, there were bizarre murders all over the country, and as a police officer I was ordered to investigate a few gruesome crime scenes...
But in April, all Hell broke loose. The Hungarian government announced the revision of the Constitution with topics like who or what can be called a living being, who or what can have rights and what kind of rights.
The public didn't understand it at first, but the USA explained it to the world through its own example. George Bush proclaimed a new Constitution on April 21. After the announcement he introduced the two men with him as the leaders of the American vampire colony. With their help and years of negotiations, the USA accepted the Amendment and made the local supernatural being legally real. Few hours later England, Russia, Japan and China also made similar Constitutional Amendments.
The panic started after that... at first it wasn't conspicuous for the public, but it was suspicious for the law enforcement agencies. There were murders, clashes and lynchings between civilians. The Hungarian government tried to keep peace and work on the Constitution at the same time, but it was in vain...
The biggest clashes started in June. The power balance of the riots turned, the monsters from our nightmares and fables were on the streets, joined the war. Suddenly the previous murders and lynchings got a new meaning... Humans are stupid. A lot of people followed the instinct: if you fear it, kill it. The consequences were bloody streets and war zones in the country. And of course, the capital got the worst of it...
He laid back with a tired sigh, the calming inner monologue worked again. It was ironic, the dreams always bought panic fear and adrenaline, but thinking about them left him calm and tired. The doctors also never understood this...
Shifting a little his right hand found the gun under the pillow, the metal cooling his fingers as he fell asleep again...
