Adults never understood Bipsy's motive for anything. In fact, whenever something went wrong they could almost be assured she had something to do with it. Any of the other chicks could tell when she was about to get in trouble by looking at the foreheads of the Elders as they stormed down from the upper tiers. They always looked like they were about to explode with frustration and rage. Of course, typically Bipsy was nowhere to be found. She avoided chastisement by fleeing the scenes of her pranks and sending her best friend Kala to take the brunt of the Elder's words.
Kala would come home to find herself promptly seated by her parents in front of an Elder and she would be forced to listen to accounts of all of the damage Bipsy had done and how she had put others in danger. Kala hated sitting through the lectures and knew Bipsy was the one who deserved to be stuck listening to them rather than her. Though, no matter how annoyed she got, she always forgave Bipsy and continued to serve as her buffer to those she upset. Kala couldn't help it; she was drawn to Bipsy's sense of adventure. In a certain sort of way Bipsy made her feel like she could do anything. Bipsy was fearless. She didn't care about rules or the way things should be. Bipsy loved causing a ruckus and being the center of attention. She knew she could talk Kala into almost anything and found her caution and hesitation amusing.
Bipsy would always stay away from the home nest after causing trouble until Kala told her the dust had settled. As much as she enjoyed stirring things up, she didn't want to put up with time-wasting punishments. She'd rather lounge near the woodland floor and play in the water while Kala helped things cool down than have to clean up her mess or apologize. Some things blew over faster than others of course, like the time she had tinkered with the instrument keys to make them all play at higher notes, just to watch the ladies of the choir turn red trying to sing on key. That time she had avoided all punishment by quoting something the choir leader had said the week before - that singers need to do everything they can to push themselves to be the very best, even if it makes them uncomfortable. Of course he had been speaking to the younger choir, Bipsy in particular, as she had fallen asleep at the before-dawn practice.
Whenever she did overstep her bounds, Bipsy always knew right away. To her though, it was all in the name of fun. Nobody ever really got hurt and nothing was ever unfixable. Things could just get so dull day after day if nobody took the initiative to make them interesting. There was hardly anywhere to go and no new people to meet. To Bipsy, this meant that the people and places that were around needed some excitement thrown their way. She loved interfering in others' lives and making “much needed” improvements to the surrounding area. She was by nature clumsy and loud, and when she got bored, she used these to her advantage to make sure she had a bit of fun.
