There was a college professor named Adam [played by Alan Rickman] who became entranced by a student named Eden. He met her at a time when he had begun to think that there didn't exist anyone on earth who could intrigue him. No one would be the person he was searching for, but then she walked into his classroom by mistake.

Eden always thought of herself as normal. Her life had always just been normal. Nothing was special about her and she'd probably settle down at a normal age with a normal guy and have an average existence. She even thought this after she met Adam. She didn't know until it was too late that he had spent three long years on this earth searching for a bride to bring back to his planet and he had chosen her.

It all started with a toy phone he gave her as a gift for her little sister that she always talked about. The phone was something he knew she'd figure out. It wasn't for her little sister at all, that was just an excuse. It was her transport to his planet.

His planet lacked the ability to produce female life. It didn't matter how hard they tried or how many children were born, they were all male. It was a curse laid upon them many centuries earlier for their overindulgence in just about everything.

This curse was all he knew. Adam had grown up as a prince and had known only this curse his entire life. He knew one day it would be his turn to use an alternative body...shall we say, Avatar style, to transport his spirit to earth to find a bride.

Now finding a bride isn't as easy as it sounds. You cannot simply pick a woman and bring her back. In fact, you can't bring a woman back at all. She must bring herself to your planet.

Now, she could be lied to in order to convince her to do this herself. That's what many of the men did. They would lie and make women fall in love with them and then convince them they'd be happy together forever, only to return to their planet as a personal servant more than a wife. Many men hated their wives on his planet. Women were pathetic beings who couldn't even produce a female child. Women were nothing.

But Adam never wanted that. Adam always wanted someone who would spike his interest rather than just any random woman. Most men spent no more than 30 days on earth, some even as few as a day, but he had spent three years before the day he met her and another year and a half after he did.

Adam had to be sure she was the one for him. She was beautiful to him and she was kind. She cared more about other people than anyone else he had met. She was genuine. He wanted someone genuine.

It came to the day when she was to go and he could tell she had figured out the phone and the secret ingredients inside of it that would allow her a small sneak peek of his planet [only because he cared more for her than he could ever let on]. She knew and she had figured out all about him, he could tell.

She yelled at her friend next to her that she didn't care if it was reckless and got up, staring at him the whole time and backed out of the classroom. She had to maintain eye contact. She had to make him know she knew.

Adam watched Eden walk out of the classroom and his eyes followed down which side of the hallway she went down and he closed the door momentarily to finish the lecture, knowing she would be waiting for him.

She felt her heart beating in her chest a million miles an hour. She felt it hard to think of anything but him. Was she under a spell that made her love him? Everything in her told her not to go with him to that planet where she knew she'd be nothing to him, but something in her told her she just had to be with him.

Eventually he came out of the classroom door after everyone had already left and she watched him inch towards her. She saw him slip into a snake form and couldn't look away. She knew she'd have to die before she could go. Did she want to go this way? She smiled at him a small smile and took the knife she had behind her back and cut off the snake's head before he could kill her and transport her to his planet.

Almost immediately she felt the tears well up. She couldn't help it, she was in love with him. She had figured out that once his earth form was killed, in whatever fashion it was in at the time, he could no longer come to earth. He was stuck on his planet with no bride. No Eden.

He felt himself wake up and he couldn't believe it. She hadn't loved him as he had thought she had. She didn't come with him and she took away any chances he ever had to find someone else. It left him absolutely heartbroken.

It took her approximately two weeks of missing him every single day to realize what she had to do. She couldn't keep living like this. She didn't want to. She wanted to be with him.

When she woke up from her terrible pain she realized it didn't hurt anymore. She looked at herself and realized she wasn't injured like she had been. That's when she noticed where she was. A woman stood at the end of the hallway and smiled at her.

"He'll be really happy to see you," she said with a smile. Eden could tell that woman was his mother.

"Where is he?" Eden asked, desperate to see him once again.

The woman led her to where Adam was, alone in his room on his bed. She could tell from the doorway he was crying and it made a part of her heart break.

"Hi," Eden spoke softly as she sat lightly on the end of his bed.

"....Eden? What are you doing here? But you didn't............. I don't understand...?" He said while staring at her in disbelief that she was even there.

With a small shrug she watched him and replied, "...I missed you."

He wouldn't find out until later, but he himself had the ability to break the curse upon his planet. His love for her was all it took. He didn't take advantage of her and he didn't treat her like everyone else did. He loved her...more than anything, and when it was his turn to rule his planet, he had the ability to spread that view. They had the ability to spread that view. To show that love was worth more than anything else in the entire universe.
