I'm on the job

1986-1993
I grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia, along with my parents and little sister, Misha, with whom I was very attached.
She and I were only two years apart in age, myself being the older one, so we always did practically everything together.
When I was seven and Misha was five, we both showed a unique aptitude for acrobatics, and excelled in gymnastics. Our parents enrolled us in every class that they could, and took us to many competitions (to which each of us scored perfectly). At one of our last competitions of the year, Misha and I were approached by a man backstage after our performances.
"'allo, children. I 'ave proposition for you both." the man grinned. He appeared to be no older than 16, tall, built, and handsome.
"What is this...Proposition?" I asked, immediately unimpressed by the man's demeanor. Misha grabbed my hand and clung to it.
"I 'oped you vould ask. You see, children, if I tell you my offer, you 'ave to promise me you won't tell anyvone. Deal?"
What does this guy really want from two kids? I pondered for a moment before agreeing, "What do you want?"
"I vant you both to join my...Team. Ve're a local group of talented people, like yourselves, and ve 'ave been trainink for years to be privileged enough to be master assassins."
What?
We were stunned by this invitation. "Us? Assassins? You've gotta be kidding me. Do we really look like assassin material to you?" I bursted out in laughter, clutching my stomach as though I couldn't breathe. The man didn't crack a smile, "I'm serious. Ve could use people of your talent."
"I'm in."
My head whipped around to look at my sister in disbelief.
"M-Misha?! What do you mean you're in?! You're not serious, are you?"
Misha nodded. "I'm in. I want to do this." She turned to face the man, "I'm ready."
"Then I'm going too!" I retorted. I'm going to protect my sister no matter what stupid choice she makes.
The man grinned and extended a hand, "My name is Dmitri. Velcome to our family."

1994-2004
The two of us trained for 11 years in Northern Russia before we were allowed to take their test to become a true master assassin.
We had traveled all over the world, shadowing graduated assassins on their missions. I had learned during the course of my education that the Assassins weren't merely assassins, but also spies, and thieves. At the end of training, each person had to choose the field in which they demonstrated the best marks in.
Misha was a tactful assassin, taking care to make sure her plans were executed with precision.
I was more proficient in thievery and stealth ops. I was small, for a young man, quick, and light on my feet. I had mastered the ability to blend in with my surroundings, and to be silent--like cat's feet.
Misha and I had spent over eleven years honing our skills, but had difficulty choosing a field. No matter what field she chooses...I'm going with her. I was determined to be partnered with his sister, and no other.
At graduation, we were pulled aside by Dmitri, "So, children. It's been a lonk eleven years, and you've both shown exceptional marks in all of the fields. And normally, we would force you each to choose a single field," he began, running a hand through his thick hair, "'owever, Misha brought to my attention that you both work very well together. So I 'ave decided to allow you to graduate in all of the fields, and be my elite team."
My eyes widened, "Y-you mean it, Dimka?!" I sank to my knees in front of my mentor, "Thank you, thank you Dimka!"
"Congratulations, you two. Come, now, we've work to do. I have a special task for you."

2005-2006
On a mission to the United States, we had been separated for a year.
Dmitri sent Misha before myself, to see how well we could work apart from each other.
Please be alright! I prayed in my head as my flight landed in Florida. I grabbed my bags from the overhead compartment, pulled out my ticket and passport, and began the uncomfortably tight walk off the airplane.
I went through customs, then headed down to the baggage claim, where I knew my sister should be waiting. When I arrived, however, I was surprised to see my sister...With another man accompanying her. My internal alarms were going off, and instantly, I was worried that someone had found out about our plans. Misha's face said otherwise.
As soon as she saw me, her face lit up with excitement and she practically tackled me to the ground, "Leon! I've missed you so much!" she cried. Relieved, I returned her embrace, "I'm so happy to see you're alright! I know Dimka has visited a few times, but it feels better being able to see you for myself." I grinned and tightened my hug before letting her go. "And who is this with you?"
Misha stepped back and glanced at the man, "Oh. This is Sirus, my boyfriend."
My smile faded instantly, "Your boyfriend?!" I hissed, clutching Misha's arm and pulling her aside to have private words with her.
"He doesn't know, right Misha? Please tell me he doesn't know!" I shook her gently, the urgency in my voice apparent. Her eyes widened, "Of course he doesn't know!" she retorted. "I would never jeopardize our mission like that! He's been...Really good to me, but don't worry, I'm leaving him before we go back to Russia with Dimka." she assured me.
I sighed, "Alright, alright. Just be careful. You never know what dumping someone can do to their mental stability, or their sense of reason."
I didn't know how right I could possibly be.

2006
It was 3 o'clock in the morning when I got the phone call.
Groggily, I picked up the phone, "'allo?"
"Leon! You 'ave to go to the 'ospital, right now! It's Misha!" Dimka's voice rang on the other end, a sense of fear and urgency in his tone.
Immediately, I tossed the covers off and slipped into my clothes. I tucked my knife into my boot, as a precaution, and headed out.
As I pulled into the parking garage, I could feel my stomach churning. I parked my car and jogged to the main entrance. At the help desk, I asked the woman where I could find my sister.
"She's in the ER, room 23."
I took off, following the signs in the building until I arrived at the ER.
"What happened?!" I demanded of the doctors and nurses outside of the door. My eyes began to sting as I felt the prickle of tears gathering in them, "Please. Tell me what happened, that's my sister in there!" I sunk down to the ground.
A female doctor kneeled before me and placed a hand delicately on my shoulder, "Your sister was in a terrible car accident. The man driving lost control of his car and drove off the side of a bridge into a river. We only barely managed to rescue both of them from the car, but..." her voice trailed off, "Misha didn't make it."
I froze, "She's...She's...?" I couldn't get the second word out for my question, but the doctor nodded, "I'm sorry. We did everything we could, but the damage was too severe."
I curled up and began hopelessly sobbing, my frame shaking with every heavy breath I took.
That night, I made a vow to myself.
I'll kill him. I'll kill that bastard, if it's the last thing I do!

2010
It had been years since my sister's death, and the wound was still as fresh as the day I'd heard the news.
I'd spent the following years on solo missions, but it was never the same. I no longer had the drive, the motivation to do my best any longer.
One morning, I was summoned to my master's quarters.
"You have got to be kidding me."
I ran a hand through my hair and sighed heavily, "You're sending a child with me on this mission? She's only 17 years old, what good would she be on the field?!" I slammed my fist on the tabletop. Dmitri sat across the table, simply leaned back, and smirked, "You'll see why when you meet her."
I scoffed and stomped off toward the door in a rage. As I reached for the handle to make my exit, I was brought to a screeching halt when I saw her. Long, white-blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, full lips of a pretty pastel pink, high cheekbones, and a brilliant smile caught me in my tracks.
The woman's smile faded as I bumped into her, "You should vatch vhere you are goink, stranger." she hissed as she brushed past me.
Wow.
Dmitri stood and welcomed the woman, a bright smile plastered on his face.
My eyes widened. That can't be her!
Dmitri beckoned me over, "Come meet your new partner, Leon."
"H-her?" I stammered. She turned her head to glance back at me over her shoulder and a sly, fox-like smile formed across her features.
"She's the best we have to offer." Dmitri retorted.
"Look," the woman began, walking slowly toward me, "I don't care vhat you think of me, but you 'ave no choice but to svallow your damn pride and trust in me."
I grimaced, clenching my teeth in an effort to keep myself from saying anything harsh, "What's your name, kid?"
The woman frowned, "Holodniy Romanov. You may call me Romanov, or nothink at all. Got it?"
"I'm Leon. Just Leon."
Holodniy nodded, "And...'ere is my file. I'd suggest readink it before we head out for our mission." She handed a folder to me.
I grabbed the file and flipped it open. I began skimming its contents, and was struck with awe.
She's better at this than I am.
"Is there problem?" Holodniy queried.
I instantly shook my head, "Not at all, Romanov. Get ready, we're headed out onto the field."
