Boring. Too boring.

Obsidianfeather looked up from the reflection in the window and glared at the various shades of teal and turquoise that blended together seamlessly on his hair, then at his wings; he'd been born as common as a common Lain like himself could get.

Why wasn't he beautiful? Why couldn't he have been born a Reborn, or maybe an Angelic Lain? Heck, even the shady Nightmare Lains were a sight better than he was. He asked himself this everyday, as he passed by windows and saw his reflection. He wasn't ugly. Just plain. Seeing the other Lains of the upper tiers, decked out in majestic hues of golds, reds, purples, and really, any other colour than teal made Obsidianfeather wonder if he was doomed to be a Plain Lain forever.

"Mrrow."

Obsidianfeather turned around and saw a small white Purrvocateur. His heart instantly went out to her - she was just like him; plain but not ugly, with white fur that didn't exude an aura of any kind. He reached out to touch her; she responded by rubbing her head against his hand, purring loudly.

"You're rather adorable, aren't you?" he murmured, "What's your name?"

The Purrvocateur blinked at him through almond-shaped eyes. "Mrrow," she pulled her head away, shaking it in response to the Lain's question.

"It's a stray," a feminine voice spoke.

Obsidianfeather looked up to see a Torrey, sitting at a nearby cafe table. She lifted a cup of tea to her lips and gracefully sipped at it, her violet eyes not breaking the gaze she'd locked with him. The spectrum of flora scattered across her person stood out against her rich, celadon hair; a true, effortless beauty. Had she been watching him?

He hastily pulled his gaze away from hers and turned back to the minion. "Shall I call you Seraph, for your white fur?"

Seraph purred in delight and rubbed her head against his wing again, tickling the Lain. Obsidianfeather chuckled.

"Tea can be quite plain, but it's up to you to do something about it to make it enjoyable," the Torrey spoke out of nowhere, as she stood up from the table. "Don't you think it's the same for your appearance?"

Obsidianfeather felt his skin prickle with heat; she had indeed been watching him. For how long, he did not want to know. "I don't like tea," he mumbled.

"Well, that's a pity. Though, I believe you could start ruminating on my words," she stood up from the table, and walked over to Seraph, bending down to pet her, "Good day,"

"To you too," Obsidianfeather raised a cynical eyebrow, before something from the corner of his eye caught his attention.

"Hey! Seraph! Where did you get that? Stop it!" he made a grab for the pink scrap of cloth that the Purrvocateur was pawing around. Had she gotten it from the Torrey? He could distinctly remember a shopping bag full of fabrics, but he wasn't too sure.

"Mrrow!" she lifted a paw and pointed at her head.

The Lain was confused. What did she want him to do? "You want a ribbon?"

Nod. "Over there?"

Another nod. "Are you sure?"

Enthusiastic nodding. "Okay then," Obsidianfeather deftly wove the cloth around, and bound a lock of fur with a bow. He then took a step back, and was astonished by the big difference in his pet's appearance. Seraph lifted her head proudly to show the ribbon on her head.

Suddenly, the Torrey's words made sense.

Just because he had a plain appearance, it didn't mean it ended there. He could do something about it, and the Torrey had pointed him to the right direction. He could make himself beautiful, if he tried. A month later, he had rid himself of his blue-green colours and adopted an alabaster and dawn persona, just like his pet. As he discovered his newfound talent, he wanted to make the whole world beautiful, with his beloved pet and muse at his side.

Let's make the world beautiful, with one person at a time.
