this is going to be a monster to write - especially trying to mimick lewis carroll's writing style agh fml

for anybody who's curious, Elaina is the daughter of Alice (yes, the one who visited wonderland back in her day!). Elaina finds her way to wonderland, only to find out that quite a few things have changed. and there's a few new people and other things she encounters as well.

Elaina sat drowsily underneath the tree, pondering on whether or not a dip in the river might be propitious; the sun was beating down upon her face without mercy (which rather worried her, for she was fair skinned and burned easily). She had been lounging about for the greater portion of the day, for as much as Alice loved strolling about the park, Elaina would much rather have been at home playing video games. The scenery surrounding her wasn't particularly remarkable, "since I could be seeing marvelous landscapes," thought Elaina crossly, "on the television screen at home."

So for the past few minutes or so, Elaina had been turning over a thought in her mind, for she was very much tired of doing nothing. "Despite what people may think, it is really quite exhausting doing nothing," she concluded, nodding her head with satisfaction at the notion. "For you never know when nothing might turn into something, or the other way around; before long, one might be doing something when all along he or she had thought they were doing nothing, and if that were the case, who knows what might happen!"

Elaina might not have agreed with Alice about the joys to be found in parks, but she certainly had her mother's same predisposition to ramble frontwards and backwards about things no one particularly cared about.

Shortly thereafter, Elaina made up her mind to go and wander about; she thought she had seen earlier an oak tree with a large, rather hollow space in its trunk. "Perfect," she thought, "for concealing myself so as not to be seen by the eyes of the general public." There wasn't much more that Elaina disliked than being stared at, so hiding herself away was an agreeable concept to her. Earlier that very morning, her mother had warned her to stay close by instead of gallivanting about like a common ruffian, but Elaina knew that her warnings stemmed from the silly notion Alice had about Wonderland. Growing up, Elaina had been told many a story about the marvels and dangers that were to be found in Wonderland, but she hadn't believed any of her mother's long-winded anecdotes (for who was to believe a story about a white rabbit in a waistcoat or a caterpillar smoking a hookah?).
