Nomi was just your ordinary demi, nothing special about this quiet girl. She lived on a little hill, in a peaceful valley just outside of Peka Glade. One day her twin sister, Rania, came to her with tears in her sad green eyes.
"Nomi, I need to ask something great of you. I'm very sick, Dandilion the healer says my days are numbered. The only way he thinks he can save my soul is to get a rare plant that grows in the Arctic Frost, high in the mountains. Dear sister can you make such a journey?"
Nomi was at a loss for words for a few seconds, she suddenly took Rania's paw and looked her straight in the eye, "I'll go pack, while I'm doing so please tell me what it looks like. I will leave as soon as possible.
Tears now overflowed Rania's eyes and ran down her face, she smiled grimly "Thank you with all my heart. It's called an Ice Orchid, very rare, it grows were other things cannot. It is a tall plant with a single bloom, the petals are the color of saphires and the leaves are a deep green."
Nomi embraced Rania and said, "You will be fine, I love you and I will be home soon, stay here and wait for my return." Nomi grabbed her pack and left.

Arctic Frost's mountains were a two days journey from the little valley but Nomi was determined to make record time, with luck she would be there in half the time if she ran the whole way. Quickly she took off as fast as her legs would carry her. As time started passing, she had went from the green grass and leafy trees of her homeland and crossed into an area that was nothing but pine trees and rocky ground. The weather became colder and colder. She took a step at the base of an enormous mountain, looking up it looked like it was taller than the clouds. Snow had just started to fall from the sky when she reached back to remove her pack, from it she grabbed her coat and gloves, it was going to be dark soon. She pushed on a little further, she wanted to start climbing and find a nice overlay where she could have a little more shelter from the bitterly cold winds. Two hours passed and if not for the moon Nomi would be in complete darkness, she was going to have to stop and make camp for the night. With her fire started she settled in for the night. As she lay there in the small cave she had stumbled upon she had only one thought on her mind, the Ice Orchid. She closed her eyes and rested, heavily worn and weary from the days run.

The next morning Nomi woke, put out her fire, and went outside her cave. It was a complete whiteout. Nomi put her paw over her mouth in horror, "What now?!" she thought to herself. Determined to finish her quest against all rational thinking she packed and headed in one direction...UP.
Many hours later she found that conditions were not improving but getting worse. She felt her own temperature dropping fast. Nomi removed her gloves and she was mesmoriezed at what she saw. Her once dark blue coat was becoming lighter and lighter blue. "What on earth is..." she said aloud. "Can cold really do that to a person?" she shook her head, "no, it is just my tired and stressed out mind playing tricks on me." she decided. She was wrong.
On she continued up the mountain, well she couldn't see if it was up but she knew what up FELT like. Suddenly without any warning she lost her footing and crashed hard to the ground. Then she heard the loud crack and the only thing she felt was the feeling of falling for a long time...

Nomi awoke shivering and shaking in the snow, she had no pack, no supplies, only what she had in her pockets. She hurt everywhere and was having trouble telling whether she was up or down. That's when she saw it, rising up out of the snow not 5 feet away, glowing like a beacon was the item she had been sent here to find. Breathless she mouthed, "the Orchid!" Nomi tried her best to stand but she kept falling down, only then did she realize that her leg was broken, tears began rolling down her frozen cheeks. Determined she crawled on her belly and reached for the Orchid. Suddenly a brilliant blue light burst from the petals and a tiny fairy made entirely of ice crystals landed on Nomi's nose.
"You have journeyed here from where young traveler? Why do you crawl on your belly in an odd fashion?" the creature giggled.
Sobbing Nomi spoke in a whisper, "My sister is ill, the only thing that will save her is your Orchid, may I please take it, I beg of you, I must save her life."
"Only one of my questions you have answered noble pet. Isn't the snow cold on your belly, why do you not stand up?" she asked gently.
Nomi gestured to her leg and replied, "I fell and now my leg is broken, I have no idea how I will make it back home but I must try."
The fairy smiled and softly kissed Nomi's nose. That instant she Nomi no longer felt any pain and she felt warm as if the Summer sun was shining down on her, she felt light as a feather and a feeling of peace stilled her worried soul down to its core.
"Dear one, a gift I have given you, forever you will be touched by this, you deserve it for you kind and pure actions I witnessed today." the tiny ice fairy smiled and with a poof of sparkling dust she vanished right before Nomi's eyes.
Nomi then reached out and plucked the Orchid from the snow gently, careful not to shatter the fragile petals. By doing this a ring of ice shards appeared where the flower had once rested, this ring acted as a mirror and Nomi was shocked by what she saw in front of her. The dark sapphire blue of her coat truly was an unimaginably beautiful pristine white, she now realized what an extraordinary gift she had been given.
"WINGS, I have real wings!" she exclaimed. The words had only just left her lips when an inner knowledge filled her heart and her mind, it yelled to her, "GO!" Nomi took flight clutching the Orchid tightly to her.

Before she even though it possible she was out of the snow and high above the blizzard. She knew which way home wa and headed that way insanely fast. Cold air became warm, warm air soon turned hot. The area looked more and more familiar. Within minutes Nomi was standing in her own yard. She rushed to the door and opened it wide.
Startled Rania gasped at the stranger then she realized who was before her. Smiling and speaking very softly Rania said, " What took you so long my fairy friend?"
Beaming with happiness Nomi replied, "Oh you know me, I had to make a little side trip on the way back." She moved to the side as a distraught looking Dandilion entered the room. "I found out our dear friend Dandi is afraid of heights!" Nomi laughed and then embraced her sister in big hug. As they left the embrace both their eyes were filled with tears, this time they were the happy kind. Because of Nomi, Rania will be around for a long time to come, always by her sister's side and eternally grateful.
