For years, Adrienne and her dog, Cody lived alone in their tiny home at the edge of Shadowglen. They lived peacefully despite living near one of the most haunted regions of Subeta. Naturally, living so close to Shadowglen meant rumors upon rumors of scary stories being passed from one individual to another. One particular rumor described a black canine-like creature that was strangled by his abusive owner with a leash and left for dead. This creature, however, did not move on to the afterlife and instead, haunts the residents of Shadowgen killing anyone who lays eyes upon it.
Since Adrienne was the only human inhabitant of her house, her and Cody would sleep in the master bedroom together. She would let Cody sleep at the side of her bed and would lock her bedroom door every night. One night, Adrienne was woken by a large crash and a yelping sound. She hid under her covers for a couple of minutes listening for more sounds, but she heard nothing. After assuming the noise was a disturbance caused by something outside of her house, she reached to the side of her bed and found Cody's fur, making her feel safer.
For the rest of the night, Adrienne still felt uneasy but she would often reach out in the dark for Cody and he would always be there. Finally morning came and as Adrienne rose to get out of bed, she let out a horrifying scream. She woke to the sight of Cody, unmoving on the floor. There were marks around his neck. He had been dead for quite some time. Then a terrifying chill went down her spine...
"Whose fur was I petting all night?"
Just as she gathered enough courage and looked over to the side of her bed, she met the most terrifying eyes and sinister smile. And then, black.
Adrienne was found three weeks later, her body hanging from her ceiling by a metal chain. They assumed she was a lonely widow who found peace by joining her husband in the afterlife. When the paramedics placed her body in the ambulance, they returned for her dog. However, Cody's body and the chain were never found.
