the gentle king

unbeknownst to humans, a soul resides within each toy. a simpler soul than that of humans, but a soul that influences the way they live and interact with each other on a day to day basis.
now toys are very emotional, and it is through their emotions that drives them to fulfill their needs, rather than procedure and logic. and while the toys were usually peaceful, their emotions were the root of their problems. the neglected would hide the favorites, the worn would damage the new, as their emotive needs could be meet by the love and care of their human owners.
but one day the mouse saw, as the monkey was tattering the dragons wings, and the bear was hiding the new neighbor, the rabbit, that the toys were becoming selfish. when all the toys were broken or lost, both the human child and the toys were unhappy, and all emotional needs were unmet. the toys needed order and structure, as emotion alone could not control them.

but the mouse was afraid, as he was worse for wear just as his friends were, and he was meek. he was the smallest of the toys, and could easily be overcome by the others. and so the mouse did not interfere, as he did not feel as he could impose power over his fellow toys...

now mouse had chosen to live in the space behind the wardrobe, as he now had learned that peace was better than affection from his child, as it would only lead to pain and ridicule from the other toys later. one day rabbit had come to him, a beaded eye dangling by a thread, and begged of him
"mouse, mouse, you must help me! i've recently been chosen by your child to live in this house, but i've only been attacked since i've got here. but it is safe with you, as no one seems to attack you, may i stay with you?"
pitying the rabbit, who did nothing to deserve the harms brought to him, allowed him to stay with him behind the wardrobe.
a few days later, dragon came to mouse and asked of him,
"mouse, mouse, you must help me! my wings have been tattered and my reel taken, i can no longer fly and can no longer be played with. it is peaceful here, may i stay with you?"
the mouse could see that what he say was true, the dragon could no longer fly, and would not make for an enjoyable kite. the mouse allowed him to stay behind the wardrobe with him.

slowly more and more toys sought refuge behind the wardrobe with mouse, and to help the toys, mouse began to mend to their injuries. he sewed back eyes, and put patches on torn wings. he mended rips and tears, and painted back what was scrubbed away. however the mouse quickly became weary, and could no longer help all the toys.

it was around this time that the child had realized his toys were all disappearing. the only ones that remained were those who were too broken to seek help from mouse. mouse realized he could no longer keep everyone behind the wardrobe, as they could not survive without the care of the boy.

filled with courage, the mouse proposed a system of order. instead of fighting for the boy's affection, they would work together to work to make their child happy, and in return, they would be happy. the other toys agreed, and knew mouse could lead them to happiness. they fashioned him a crown, and fixed him a staff, and from that moment on, mouse was known as the gentle king.
