Special Environmental Response and Remediation Initiation Cyborg
The cyborgs of the Solar Flare represent the SF's ingenuity and resourcefulness. Others would say "thriftiness" to "brutality" or even "[redacted for inadequacy in PR use]" - Brig. Gen. Joseph.
All cyborgs have a shared fondness of flowers and will happily scan them for hours. No one is sure why this is, and programming can suppress but not completely remove this.Cyborgs can always see ghosts, but register them as "a strange plant" upon scanning them.
Echo is an APP-002G who was reprogrammed from being a medical unit after age resulted in repeated errors. She helps the APP generals mostly by making coffee now, and if she thinks you are hungover will make you her hangover cure of black coffee with a lemon slice in it. Just drink the coffee.Liz is an APP-002G who will threaten violence if you deny Echo's coffee. Cyborgs aren't supposed to be aggressive and this is suspected to be a reprogramming done by Lt. Gen. Rin, who denies this.
Captured enemies are most often turned into SAF ground units and occasionally environmental units. Cyborgs have their memory wiped and follow specific programming, unlike the AI possessed by APP birds and SF droids.
Case studies & compilations
Abstract: The board has reviewed four (4) case studies and fifteen (15) studies and accounts regarding potential GAD and other psychological disorders in cyborg units, particularly within CHA and similar public service units, and found sufficient evidence of these occurring at a low (less than 10%) rate. The board has listed most common disorders, possible causes, and suggested actions for those with a unit showing signs of said disorders. The healthiest model appears to be Model APP-002Gs while the least healthiest appears to be Model CHA-391M. The board has deemed further investigation nonessential.
Reference units (case studies)
*One (1) Model CHA-205C
*One (1) Model CHA-391M
*One (1) Model APP-002G
*One (1) Model SAF-80S
Reference units (compilations)
*Eight (8) Model CHA-205C
*Twenty-two (22) CHA-391M
*Two (2) Model APP-002G
*Thirteen (13) Model SAF-80S
Most common disorders exhibited in cyborg units
*GAD (13%)
*OCD (6%)
*Depression (4%)
83% of cyborgs that exhibited signs of one disorder exhibited symptoms of another.
100% of cyborgs exhibited temporary PTSD symptoms when exposed to bright lights they could not retreat from.
The following are believed to be causes of these disorders
*Being removed from long term owners
*Chronic pain that coding ignores
*Mimicking symptoms present in owners
*Not being able to complete protocols coding deems important
*Overexposure to bright lights

Welcome to your CHA-391M unit! All CHA units are designed to provide assistance in the home and with housework-related tasks. This CHA-391M unit is unarmed and considered Safe for Civilian Use and may be used in all public areas and zones. This unit is considered a Service Unit.
This unit comes equipped with one (1) military-grade deployable particle barrier, for emergency use.
Units start in Standby mode, and will not interact unless their mode is changed or an emergency is detected. For optimal results, do not change your unit’s mode until you have read the entirety of this manual.
Default CHA-391M units are not qualified for infant or young animal care. If you require such assistance, additional programming can be purchased and downloaded. Your unit may be replaced.
For optimal performance, yearly maintenance is suggested. One (1) yearly checkup is provided by Techs Unlimited free of charge.
The cost of your unit’s basic care is included with its purchase and reset monthly along with your usual credit allotment.
No company can ensure zero malfunctions with a unit. For your safety, please only allow our approved partner (Techs Unlimited) to service your unit.An unsealed unit presents an electrical danger and safety hazard due to moving parts. If your unit becomes unsealed at any time, contact Techs Unlimited and your nearest medical bay immediately, as your unit may be at risk of improper shutdown.
A shutdown unit will attempt to use any reserve power to maintain organic health.A sealed unit is waterproof and dirtproof. A unit can remain underwater (hold their breath) for up to one (1) hour.
Your unit will automatically perform basic maintenance once a week. Overheating and other dangers are more likely to occur if this maintenance is interrupted or delayed.
Memory recollection is an extremely rare but serious malfunction. If your unit exhibits any signs of recollection (unusual hesitation, sudden halting, visible or verbal confusion), put them in Sleep mode and contact Techs Unlimited for service.
If unit does not go into Sleep mode, contact Techs Unlimited immediately. Only attempt to move the unit to a confined space if you feel safe doing so. If you are in a public space, please request the assistance of a nearby official.
To switch your CHA-391M unit to Online, press the glowing orange button on the unit’s left shoulder. The unit will then ask for your:Citizen Identification (CI) number, from which it will download your basic and medical information.
If you desire this manual read aloud.
If you would prefer to input settings through a screen and keyboard, will the unit will project over its left palm.
If you wish to name it (unit will respond to your voice regardless).

Once settings are set, your unit will familiarize itself with your home before beginning assigned tasks.
Your unit will attempt to maintain your household in its entirety. Preferred tasks will be prioritized, and Undesired tasks will not be performed unless deemed an emergency.
All settings can be updated by saying “Update settings” or by holding the left shoulder until the button appears.
Tasks can be updated by saying “Update tasks.”
Tasks that require credits or identification will prompt the unit to request access to your account and CI. By default, units will spend up to 80% of your allotted food credits grocery shopping. This percentage can be raised or lowered by saying “Update credit allotments.”
You are responsible for ensuring your credit allotments are correct.
The “cooking” task will reference your medical information by default. Additional settings and preferences can be set by saying “Update cooking.”
Default CHA-391M units are not qualified for infant or young animal care. If you require such assistance, additional programming can be purchased and downloaded. Your unit may be replaced. All CHA units have organic parts, and require four (4) hours of uninterrupted rest every 48-hour period. Your unit is taking this rest 1AM to 5AM every other day by default. This setting can be updated by saying “Update resting times.” You can also say “Take rest early” if you will need your unit consistently in a foreseeable 48-hours.
It is illegal to intentionally misuse or abuse any cyborg unit. You are ultimately responsible for ensuring your unit’s health is maintained. For additional information, see the Mechanical Cruelty Prevention Act, section 4.13a.
A unit that is receives yearly maintenance and is allowed adequate rest will generally perform its tasks without issue for up to twenty five (25) years. Additional service may be required beyond this timeframe.
Should replacement be required, your old unit’s chip can be transferred to the new one.If your unit appears to be attempting multiple tasks at once unsuccessfully, you can reboot it by saying “Perform task reboot” or by accessing the settings through the left shoulder button.
“Perform task reboot” will resolve most issues.
All cyborgs have organic parts that may become irritated or injured, especially if their metal plating is damaged or unsealed.
The most common issue is overheating due to poor circulation of, or lack of, coolant. Your unit may become sluggish, warm/hot to touch, and/or act as though they have a fever.
Coolant levels can be checked and maintained manually. This is best done with the unit entering Sleep mode on a flat surface. The panel can be accessed by entering settings and selecting “Coolant panel - Open coolant panel.”
Although coolant cylinders are sealed, it is suggested that you handle them with gloves. Remove the coolant cylinder; if below 20%, replace with a new one. If cylinder is cracked, inspect the replacement and the panel for damage.
Once cylinder is replaced, close the panel and allow your unit up to one (1) hour to cool down before resuming tasks. Once the unit is sealed, fans, cool cloths, and/or a nearby open window can be used to help the unit cool down.
CHA-391M units can remain underwater (hold their breath) for one (1) hour, but are not meant for extended underwater use and their organic parts can be at risk due to lack of oxygen.
If problems persist, contact Techs Unlimited for service.
Citizens of the SF that are over 18 may sign up for the cyborg donor program to fulfill medical and public servant roles after passing. CHA units (Cyborg Home Assistant) are the most common and come in two models: 205C (citizen use) and 391M (military personnel use). Additional models and placements are available upon requests.
