- dad teaches her how to use a sword, fight, etc. mother does not approve. likes to play with her brothers and get all dirty, sometimes plays too rough and the boys complain. dad is proud

- one day she meets a boy in the woods by the name of Arthur, who is a very skilled hunter. he teaches her, and she in turn tutors him in Latin.

- her mother grows tired of Kara's insistence on acting 'like a boy' and marries her off at the age of sixteen to a much older lord.

- ripped away from her family as well as her friendship with Arthur, with whom she has fallen in love, she goes to the very north of England. her husband is kind and affectionate to her, but she never loves him. he dies of an unknown illness three years after their marriage and she decides to travel back to her once-home.

- she finds Arthur, and he is betrothed to another. turns out he is also the [Plantagenet] king's brother. she becomes one of the king's knights with Arthur's insistence to his brother.
