Maher [mair] is the resident scientist in the family. To get away from the constant hi-jinks of his siblings, he discovered his love of chemistry. Maher is known to stay in his room until late and night, so it is not uncommon for there to be various booms and bangs heard throughout the house at all hours of the day. Unfortunately, due to his shut-in nature, the only conversations he can hold involve Chemistry or Chemistry related jokes. So when Maher tells you the joke "What did the bartender say when Oxygen, Hydrogen, Sulfur, Sodium, and Phosphorus walked into his bar? "OH SNaP!", please just try to laugh politely, as any positive social interaction would be great in bringing him out of his cocoon.

This pet was named after my high school Chemistry teacher, Mr. Henry Maher, and while not intended to be a memorial pet at the time of creation, life happens. On February 1, 2012, Mr. Maher died unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of 58. He was a great teacher, a former Marine Colonel, and a person almost everyone felt comfortable in talking with, for me, he was someone I talked to on a daily basis, including the days leading up to his death. Rest In Peace Mr. Maher, everyone lucky enough to get to know you will miss you.
