He knew he was different to the other children. The school master tired of the relentless questions and challenges to his authority. Home schooling did little to quench the fires.
The questions raged in his head - could life be ... manufactured? Could there be a living creature made from wheels and cogs and metals and powered by steam? Could man be as a god...?
For his views, he was mocked by his peers, ridiculed or ignored by nannies and tutors:
"Now, young sir, you should not say blasphemous things!"
"Such things belong in the realm of god, child"
His parents died in a carriage accident when he was 19. From then on he lived alone, worked alone. This was a man with a mission. And nothing would throw him from his chosen course.

And what of this man, this dreamer, this visionary?
His grave lies in the rolling hills of the English countryside. But his work lives on.
