Kovue is a War veteran, there was a War between his Pride and another. He is the Pride leader, and had to defend his loved ones from harm.
There was conflict, as the leader of the other tribe threatened to slaughter his children, as they were not allowed in Kovue's land. This punishment was consequent to their actions, where they tried to take Kovue off the throne. This immediately failed as they were very much outnumbered. Kovue is loveable both as a person and as a leader, his leadership ability is superior and unique and the people in his Pride were thankful for him.
