The Cult
A pok a li [ah pok ah lee, ah pok ah lee] n. 1. Goddess of chaos and destruction of the Apokalipsian cult |
The Cult
The cult of Apokali is mysterious and little studied, but it is understood that they are unpredictable, and therefore dangerous. Anyone who worships chaos and destruction is likely to be a little warped, at least when compared to the norm. But eschewing the status quo seems to be a defining characteristic of Apokalipsians.
The Fanatic
Certainly, it's known that the tentacled beast who follows the goddess devotedly should be avoided at all costs, unless one is of also of the devout. Its primary purpose seems to be to attempt to convert the unbelievers, but it does this by demonstrating the destructive powers of its goddess upon those so chosen, which--while it may be an effective means of convincing them of her existence--is ultimately counter-productive, killing the subject at the moment of greatest belief.
The Blood Priestess
The highest position in Apokali's cult is that of Blood Priestess, who, by contrast, traditionally cares little about matters of conversion and seeks instead to spread destruction and havoc wherever she might. Presumably this is a form of worship. Strangely, for such a public figure, this priestess is usually described as living in the shadows. This does not seem to adversely affect her authority, however, which is understandable, given how quixotic and deadly she is reputed to be.
Imagery
The Goddess Apokali is often depicted wielding one or two swords, at times dripping blood, and holds a skull representing her fallen foes. She wears a dark pendant, which is said to contain her powers, made concrete so that she can bestow her blessing upon a favorite if need be. Apokalipsian legends speak of multiple times when the current Blood Priestess was given this gift, and terror reigned until the goddess reclaimed her pendant. The cultists recall these legends with a mixture of fear and a strange, unfathomable longing.
