♥️
He had been cursing at the ocean for a good ten minutes straight. This wasn't unusual. Some people smoke. Other people drink. Yuri used to do both. Sometimes he still did the latter. Even so, the ocean was usually the better option. For one, it didn't leave him with a bad breath or a nasty hangover. Second, it felt more like he was casting his problems out into oblivion, rather than attempting to drown or suffocate them from the inside. The ocean was a glutton as far as his feelings were concerned, and that suited him just fine.
Free-spirited; fun-loving; daring; alluring; intoxicating; a total badarse - this was the kind of person he fancied himself to be. As such, his anxiety drove him crazy. Who cared if he was a screw-up? (He did.) Who cared what people thought? (He did.) Who cared if no one actually wanted him around? (Have a guess.) Who cared? Who cared?
The young man kicked the railing that lined the seafront before realising that perhaps it wasn't one of his better ideas. As his foot rung with pain he dropped some more unpleasant words, and the waters happily gobbled them up. However, it didn't take him long to recover, and soon he dumped down onto the pavement, face towards the waves. It was a quiet night. Cool, if not a bit cold. Mid-may still had some spring left in it, but Yuri had long since buried his warmer coat in the back of the closet. He didn't use it much anyway; it made him look bulky. He wasn't bulky, but he wanted to be sleek & mysterious, and you just can't pull that off with a bulky jacket, so he left it hanging as often as he could. Actually, he wasn't very mysterious either. Sure, the makeup helped, and he had a very nice resting bitch-face, but he got a bit too easily excited, and that wasn't even close to metal. To be honest he wasn't quite sure what it was, or even what he was. He tried not to think about it too much. Rather, he would chuck such thoughts out into the abyss and let them drown, far away from his over-thinking numskull. His mind often buzzed when it was quiet. He hated it. A simple, carefree life full of excitement, adventure, new things & people - that's what he wanted. Always having something to do, places to go, things to explore - that's what made his heart come alive. And yet, here he was, sitting on his arse by a hungry ocean in the dead of night, alone, and getting colder by the minute. Talk about deluxe suckage.
When Yuri was five, his parents died in a car accident. He was placed into foster care, and eventually a foster home. Even though his foster brother came to mean a lot to him, his guardians struggled to keep the young boy out of trouble. After too much time spent screwing up in school, 16-year-old Yuri ran away. Hereafter he did what he could to survive, from legitimate small jobs to don't-ask-don't-tell in shady places. His favourite job by far was being a session guitarist. On stage, in the midst of a good, heated atmosphere, he would let loose & thrive. This is where he would return to whenever he could - and still does, at 25, as he keeps trying to make the pieces of his life fit together.
