Ash And Cinder. All That Remains Is Flame.
Saiki was once a normal wolf pup who had been born on the lands of the Volcanic Plains, a stretch of land that was inhabited by three different volcanos. Two calderas named Ashcloud and Blackfuse respectively with a super volcano in the very middle called The Hellgate Summit. This Plain is located in the very middle of Astrinet and is considered a toxic land for folks to live on though the wildlife has seemed to thrive while the volcanos sleep. The vegetation there has grown much greener and has become rich in nutrients. Prey and predator alike seem to share the land here without fear of being hunted to near extinction. Even those involved in the black market trades do not dare hunt the creatures here for fear the land will awaken and seek to destroy them. One such animal family was that of a pack of wolves of which Saiki was born to. Their coat was a rich black color speckled with spots of grey. The specks differed from wolf to wolf and it was easy to identify Saiki since his specks were mostly on his head and tail whereas his siblings had them mostly on their bodies and legs. His family had been often photographed throughout the generations since they're rather peaceful so long as you don't approach or disturb them in some way. The only two attacks that occurred with his family happened before he was born. One attack was provoked after an entitled family of three tried to get close to two female wolves and were immediately taken down a few notches. Once park rangers arrived, the attack abruptly stopped and the family wandered away. Park rangers refused to put the females down as they were being encroached upon. Signs are literally everywhere about the etiquette of these lands and it fell to the visitors to follow the rules or let nature take over their course. The second attack happened when one of the seniors had gotten too close to the road and a curious tourist decided that they wanted to pet the old fella. The senior had lost most of his teeth and thus did not try to fight back. He also could not run fast either as his body was very tired. Instead his mate seemed to appear out of thin air and gave the tourist a piece of her mind and latched around the arm and pulled with the force of a hundred men. The tourist lost his arm but luckily lived and now had an interesting tale to tell...It had been centuries since the last eruption caused the calderas to empty and the land to be wrecked with fiery destruction. Saiki's family had lasted many generations and were able to thrive despite the tourism that occasionally put them on edge. However; this year had a different smell in the air. Tainted but familiar. An odor that had not been smelled in many years. Some of the creatures knew instinctively what this meant as it seemed the volcano had started to awaken and was now billowing smoke. Within the month the tourism had stopped and yellow warning tape lined the signage and roadblocks had been placed along the concrete path. Saiki was very confused at this sudden change and was sad they had to leave their nice home they made. While the family was roaming away from the site, Saiki saw a group of birds fly by and began to chase them. At first they stayed close to the pack but soon enough they were flying back towards the super volcano. He soon took notice of the land beginning to shake and stopped chasing the birds to look around. Where was his family? He had now lost them and couldn't find them as they had disappeared over the horizon. The ground soon felt hot and it was such a strange feeling on Saiki's little paw pads. After that he heard a loud hissing sound that he'd never heard before. It sounded like a titanic snake was nearby but it didn't seem quite right. His ears twitched furiously as he determined where this new noise was coming from. By the time he looked up toward the volcano it was too late. A fountain of molten lava spewed forth and shot hot rock his way. His eyes widened and he did his best to dodge the incoming debris but the swift ash cloud that had sprang forth with the fountain of lava had obscured his sight and he soon found himself engulfed within the molten material...
All was not lost. Saiki had shut his eyes real tight and covered his snout with both paws in hopes he wouldn't inhale too much toxic fume. He was sure he was going to perish though as the heat had seared into his very soul and felt as if it melted him away. Instead in seemed to reshape him into something new. He was still a wolf of course but his skin grew ever hotter and felt as if it was producing flames on its own. Soon he was unable to smell anything at all and the burning he had felt in his eyes faded not long after. He felt his spirit being carried upon an ashen wind but dared not to look for fear he would fall from the sky if he took the chance. He was terrified and lonely and desperately wished he was with his family. He took a deep breath and tried to steady his nerves. Before he knew it the sudden rush of wind had died down and all was silent. Saiki slowly opened an eye to look around and realized he wasn't on the Volcanic Plains anymore. He seemed to be on some sort of huge island that was out in the middle of the ocean. The salty breeze made him shudder hard and that's when he noticed what looked like a flame had flickered within his peripheral vision. As he turned to make the observation he looked down and noted that his leg was on fire. Turning to check out his back resulted him in realizing that his entire BODY was on fire. He panicked at first but the flame didn't actually hurt. The salty wind that did blow however DID. He wondered where he could find shelter that wouldn't be burned to a crisp by his very existence. Saiki got to wandering inland toward the forest and made sure to stay on the sandy path that looked manmade but he wasn't too sure. He soon stumbled across a cave-like structure and wandered inside to check it out. The air smelled smoky and his ears shot up in panic. He was slightly worried this was another volcano but luckily for him it was just a cave that just so happened to have a crater like structure that was filled with lava instead. There was also a large metal object off to the side that had some tools laying on top. He was too short to see what they were but decided this place was better than nothing as it was deep enough to keep the wind from getting him. There was also some drilled holes in the ceiling that kept the smoke from lingering within the cave too so he could have the heat but not get smoked out. This was now his home. All alone. He didn't think he'd be able to get used to such silence...
Four years had passed since Saiki's arrival on these islands. He had grown into a tall and strong wolf who just so happened to also be wrapped in flames. He kept his fancy base coat and over time the flames turned white with some blue flickering toward the tips. Once he was tall enough to see what was on the metal table he realized it was blacksmith tools. He had seen them while wandering for food nearby and had taught himself how to read the writing in some of the journals he had found on the ground. One of the journals contained the blacksmith's instructions to an apparent apprentice and thus Saiki took it upon himself to learn how to make "weapons" like these people did. It was hard but over time he developed a way that was easy for him to work and soon started making piles of weapons. Mostly swords but those were his favorite and by far the easiest thing to make. He was even able to set up sales for these things after some funny people from a "black market" had come to the island in hopes of taking anything valuable while they were on their way back home. He had grown used to the solitude and explored every single inch of the island and made sure to leave burn marks to claim it as his own. This was his island now. The volcano back home clearly wanted him to come here so it sent him here! Plain and simple! Though a couple events that occurred ended up changing his mind.
The first of these events for him was an odd person had washed up on the shore and was quite hostile toward him. They tried to attack him with water or some kind of liquid! How rude! There was apparently another wolf or dog that had washed upon the shore but they had found Saiki's adversary first and thus were hostile toward him as well. It was hard to fight this creature as it was always wet and hid in the water when it was losing.
The second of these events involved another creature washing up on the island shore but this time he was able to get to them before his enemies did. This wolf was taller than him and had quite long fangs. She was a gorgeous blonde color and also seemed to be wrapped in a similar flame to him though her flame was yellow and orange like his was when he first was wrapped in such an elemental power. She was barely breathing and unconscious. She was also wrapped in a chain which Saiki managed to break her free from. When she awoke she went wild and attempted to attack him though he was just a bit quicker than her and knocked her off her feet, which caused her to pass out again. Saiki decided that even though she did just try to assault him that she needed help and gently dragged her back to his home. A few hours passed when she awoke and nearly attacked him on sight when he spoke. She kicked the breath out of him when he told her he was a friend and not a foe. Not only was she pretty but she was super strong too! Once she calmed down she explained that her name was Fengo and she came from a different island and was captured and caged by some strange folks. Unfortunately the boat her cage was on had ran into a bad storm and it threw her overboard. She was unsure how she got free but was glad Saiki had found her along the shore. Since she had no idea how to get back home herself she decided to stay and help Saiki work on his weaponry by gathering the material needed to forge. She also found precious gemstones that she used in jewelry making as that was a hobby of hers back home when she wasn't out fighting. When questioned, Saiki found out that Fengo was actually a warrior! So cool! She would speak of her exploits in battle and he would happily listen while they worked. Occasionally an adversary would encroach too close to their home and Fengo would defend them with such ferocity it would make even the most solitary of wolves fall in love. He sure hoped that one day they could defeat their enemies and live in peace.
