Joints and hinges squeaked as Cache began to wag its tail. It had spent the last few hours scrounging around the junkyard in hopes of finding more keys, and had just found a decently sized stash. Cache quickly stowed the pile of keys into its storage, hoping that one of them was what it has been trying to find for so long.
Long ago—even before it began to rust—Cache's creator always spoke of something so grand called the key to happiness. They often mentioned how Cache was their own key to happiness, but that often confused it. Sure, it did its best to make them happy, but it wasn't even a key!
When Cache's creator suddenly disappeared one day, Cache knew that it was time to go out and find its own key to happiness. It had been a few years since that day, every day being full of adventures that it enjoyed very much.
Upon recalling every single one of its adventures, Cache began to realize that the key to happiness wasn't a literal key. All those adventures, the sheer excitement of making a discovery. Those were its own personal key to happiness.
Its gears softly whirred as it was finally happy.
