Background info on angels + demons in this story.
Angels typically have one to two pairs of large, feathery wings. These wings are usually white, but very rarely may be a lighter shade of their fur colour. The most common eye colours are cool colours, such as blue, violet, and silver. Angel eyes have round or oval pupils. Angels live in a strict society, where rules and procedures are followed closely to provide guidance in their lives. Each individual is required to undergo six years of schooling in their chosen field; these studies prepare them to fit into a role in their society. Each student is bestowed with a halo or other light-infused accessory upon graduating, which amplifies their magical affinity and allows them to accomplish even greater feats of magic. Use of the halo also influences their physical form, resulting in temporary fur or feather and wing growth. Only one angel child is born per pregnancy. Familial ties are essentially non-existent in angel society. Families raise their children until they are of school age, but then largely leave them in the education system and never contact them again. Angels are governed by a single figurehead called the Arch Angel.
Demons typically have no wings, although extremely rarely, one pair of leathery wings may be present. These wings are always darker than their fur colour. The most common eye colours are warm colours, such as red, gold, and amber. Demon eyes have slit or cross pupils. Demons live in scattered societies, where a family group of three to four claims a territory and isolates itself from other groups. No formal education system is in place, so it is the parents’ responsibility to pass on their knowledge to their children. However, this system works well for the demons, who are used to doing as they wish, and find rules and procedures oppressive. There are only two rules. One, self-imposed, is that parents must chase their offspring out of the family group once they are of a self-sufficient age. The second rule is that any angel-demon hybrids are to be killed on sight. Only one demon child is born per pregnancy. Demon society is arguably more family-oriented than angel society, as parents directly influence their children's lives and typically raise them for a much longer time. Demons are governed by the most powerful demon called the Arch Demon.
