I'll still be here waiting on the breeze to bring you down to me
and if it takes forever
forever it'll be
The forest could feel the end of summer. The days grew shorter and a slight chill was in the air. The old, twisted trees knew that soon it would be time for their winter slumber, just as they had known for years and years before. The creatures of the forest could feel it as well, and they skittered through the undergrowth in preparation.
In the early morning frost, a tiny sprite was reborn. She knew her duty to the forest, and with a stretch and a shake of her bushy tail, she was off. As she flit through the leaves, the vibrant greens of summer faded to the subtle oranges and yellows of autumn. She danced to a tune as old as the forest itself, embracing the beauty of what she has created.
Soon after, the leaves began to fall. The blustery winds blew many from their branches, but few held on tight. The sprite slowed her dance, finding those leaves that clung on and ever-so-gently gave them the nudge they needed to join their fellows on the ground.
The winter moves in, but the forest is ready. The sprite curled up into her small burrow and began the long sleep until she was needed once again.
