Milan is a Grey Warden of Ferelden. He is always accompanied by a Mabari war hound named Rasha.

Milan has been raised by his uncle Bryce Cousland, the Teryn of Highever because his father vanished when he was 4 years old and his mother died while giving birth to Milan (His mother was Bryce's sister). Bryce and his wife always tried to treat Milan like their own son Fergus and so Milan had a sheltered childhood.

Milan sees Fergus like his own brother and had a close relationship to his uncle and his aunt. When Milan was 23 years old, Bryce and his women were murdered by a rivaling family and Milan had to flee and only survived with the help of the Grey Wardens who found him ill and more dead than alive near the Korcari Wilds.

Milan is romantically involved with Morigan, which made it impossible for him to undergo the dark ritual. The idea of her leaving with a child of him that he will never able to raise was like a stab with a dagger in his heart. Especially cause his own mother died and his father disappeared. He doesn't want his child to have the same fate.

So he decides not to undergo the dark ritual and because he does not want his friend Alistair to die he decides to take the final blow on the Archdemon and sacrificing himself.

So they fight the Archdemon and Milan is able to kill it, which leaves him unconscious and gravely wounded. But not dead like everybody expected and it should have been. Later on Milan finds out that he "carries" the untainted soul of Urthemiel himself (The gods soul was it also who saved him from death but even Milan does not know this at that moment, and he has no idea how that could have happened).
He keeps it a secret because he is afraid that this information can be turned against him and makes others believe it must have been the mercy of the maker, that he survived (the funny thing is, I had this idea long before it was known that Flemeth carries a soul of an elven goddess.
Milan tries to find out why he was able to survive and why he was not killed by the old gods soul (What normally happens to the Warden that kills the Archdemon.)

He will meet Morrigan again. But it will take about 10 years. Morrigan really feels guilty when she finally understands what she has lost, and she is afraid of meeting Milan. She avoids him, and he does the same because he is the opinion that Morrigan only used him and never really loved him. Nonetheless Milan can't stop to love her, and she actually does too still love him.

She gets to know that Milan survived so, but she doesn't know why unless Milan tells her. When they meet again.
Morrigan will not admit at first, that she still loves Milan. Milan in contrary will not hide his feelings.

The first time Morrigan will admit her love is, when Milan decides to sacrifice himself to bring Urthemiel back in a living form. (he will simply leave a letter for her, because he can't bring himself to tell her). She will follow him to stop him but will be too late. She will meet the god in human form, Milan already dead. Urthemiel touched by her honest feelings and because he was part of Milan for so long decides to give Milan his live back sacrificing a part of himself. Milan and Urthemiel are connected from now on (so if something happens to the god Milan will suffer the same and vice versa).

Urthemiel:

Urthemiel, the Dragon of Beauty, was a draconic Old God worshiped as the god of beauty in the ancient Tevinter Empire. Urthemiel was awakened by darkspawn and transformed into an Archdemon in 9:30 Dragon, precipitating the Fifth Blight.

Among the ancient Tevinter people, Urthemiel was the fairest and most graceful of the Old Gods. His beauty is now a horrid mockery of the being he once was. If not religious canon of the Tevinters, at least some dragon cults believed Urthemiel sired a daughter, Urzara.

Urthemiels soul somehow was "absorbed" by Milan, without causing Milan to die. So the Soul of the god accompanies Milan for more than ten years, learning what it means to be mortal.

Milan starts to realize that the gods in their untainted form also have somehow feelings, motivations and are more than the destructive forces they are when tainted into Archdemons. He also slowly starts to understand that Urthemiel feels responsible for the mortals and actually wants to help. He learns that a lot of lore that tells about the gods are not true and that there is a lot more behind all that.

Urthemiel will recognize how painful it can be for mortals to be used, and so he decides never to take over Milan (he starts to like the grey warden who carries him). He will become a lot of more mercy full and good-natured cause of all that experience. Also, he will see what mortals sacrifice to stop, what the old gods and the insane magisters have brought over the world (the blight) out of egoism and the hunger for power.

Urthemiel never takes over but sometimes Milan can hear him talk or sees him in dreams (in his untainted form and often also in a human shape not always as dragon). In the 10 years in Milan's body Urthemiel will learn a lot of human feeling, sacrifice, honor, loyalty, pain, which will help him to understand humans a lot better. When he still was an old god in Tevinter he never really did understand the mortals only used them or were pretty selves centered which ended in the magisters tainting the golden city (we all know that the old gods seem to have pushed the mortals into that direction) which also was a reason "The Maker" did send them into their slumber and becoming tainted by the Darkspawn. Actually it was a punishment from "The Maker" who for me is nothing else than a more powerful god who took care for the "lesser" gods.

Family:

Milan's uncle was murdered when Milan was 23 years old. He doesn't know much about his father, who vanished when Milan was 4 years old. After such a long time Milan thinks him dead and from time to time pities, that he never had the chance to get to know his father. His cousin Fergus still lives and is the new Teryn of Highever. Both still have a very good relationship and refer to each other as brothers.

Athletic built, short cropped dark blond hair, stubble, tanned, handsome angular features. He has emerald green eyes. Milan is not very tall for a man (170 cm).
Small pale scar on his right cheek (from a knife or similar).

Kind of clothing:

Normally wears a dark brown leather coat with a Grey Warden Griffon Symbol on his back (etched in the leather), which is mixed with the crest of the house Cousland over a long chain mail, dark shirts, dark leather pants and dark metal embossed leather boots.

2 silver rings (ear lap) right ear, 1 silver ring right ear.
The right side of his head and neck are tattooed with a black tribal. Also, his arm and shoulder and his chest are tattooed.

Personality:

Self-confident, straight forward kind of person, stubborn, bullheaded, loyal to his friends. He can be caring when he really likes or loves someone. Animals somehow have the habit to like him.
