Heaven was never a place how humanity imagined it. Angel sitting on clouds playing harp? Archangels sitting right next to god, watching everything that happens on earth? Oh no.

The truth is, that heaven was like a flowing city. A city with houses, public sector entities, parks and garden. Everything was just a bit … heavenly. One thing though, was like how human imagined angels to be. We really are messengers of god. Sending out dreams, bringing life to earth and taking a weary soul through our gates back home.

Those dreams we spread do have their drawback. Sometimes they are quite ambiguous … but it’s our highest divine command that we are not allowed to communicate with humans in any other way. Thoughout the short history of mankind, there were so many dangerous incidences, which nearly lead to a catastrophe. Nephilim, creatures between human an angels, or divine weapons in human hands, which ereased thousands souls meaningless. In the end it was my devision who needed to took care of everything was in its line.

Up until now it wasnt out task, to request the messengers to do their job. Dreams and messages were a significant part of our work. Although it took some time till human understood the tidings and what we wanted to impart with, the messages had to be spread nevertheless.

Our father sends out the messages in our dreams. If the dreams were sometimes blurry, vague, it was the consils task to make it clear, what the message was about. The consil consisted of archangels, old and mighty, which claimed to be stand in direct contact with god. In cases of doubt, the consol decided about urgency and interpretation of gods message.

More and more frequently the consil had to judicialize the messengers themselves. The more vaguely the messages got, the angels began to refuse to deliver the messages to the human world. They started to doubt the system of its integrity and stopped all transmissions. Some already doubted gods existence. So the consil spoke out their own messages which shall be spread among the humans.

Again my division had to find a messenger, so that we could arrest and guide them to the consil. But today work was even harder for me. The messenger, which we had to lead to court was Luciana. We both grew up together … but what makes it even worse, she always have been one of the most religious angels I ever met.

»Open up, Luci … you know it will get worse if you dont!«

Shortly after the door opened. Luci looked at me with a distant glance, her hair flowing loosely over her shoulders. Without any words the arrest was carried out. Neither Luci nor I switched any phrases or glimpse. The way back to court seemed to be endless. Enchaining your own friend, knowing exactly what court would speak out as she neglected her tasks, made it even worse.

As we arrived at court, two angels in their shiny armor flew down to take Luciana over to court. I sighed deeply, as Lucianas raised her voice low.

»He doesnt exist anymore. The consil is licentious.«

It was her last words, before Luciana, flanked on both sides by ironcladed angels, was taken to court. Her expression was not pleading. It was a look full of grief, full of disappointment.

I was standing there, watching this surreal scene, completely unable to move.

»Commander?«

One of my divisions warriors pulled me back to reality.

»Mission accomplished. Subject arrived at final destination. Dismissed.«

Maybe somehow irritated I left my divison back. I had to think about what Luci did. About what god did. About what the consil did. About what I did.

Lucianas words echoed again in my mind.

He doesnt exist anymore. The consil is licentious.

The more I thought about it, the more my faith began to crumble. What are we doing? We never saw god. The archangels decided who was allowed to stay in heaven and who were banished as a fallen angel. Wasn’t it gods verdict to decide upon that? Where was he?

Immediately I knew I couldnt stand a chance against the consil. But I had access towards heaven armory. A small blade, forged in the sun, was way enough to cut down the the crystalline walls of prison.

It wasn’t unusual, that commanders were on patrol at night. I took advantage of it, and threw the blade through the small bay in the wall into the prison.

Two condemned angels looked at me through the small gap.

»It will free you. But you need to hurry, I wont be able to prolong this patrol any longer. Free every sentenced angel and make off.«

Acting like nothing happened, I got back to my patrol. I also knew, this was my last night within the heavenly gardens. I already equipped myself with my own weapons, ready to escape the heaven with the first sunrays.

There were other places, similiar to heaven, where I was able to hide myself. But I was also stigmatized as a traitor. But why would god give us a conscience, if we wouldn’t use it at all?
