Thero was born the middle child to Haldir and Ruvin Laebrinthar, with Camus being his older brother and Hira being his younger sister. His childhood name was Vae, and he was a loud, if somewhat awkward, child. He labored under the expectation that he would go on to work in the family business, Laebrinthar Imports and Antiquities, but Thero's academics and work ethic left something to be desired in his adolescence. His family generally considered it a blessing when he decided to transition around the age of 60, as this eased his teenage rebellion.

Reaching early adulthood, Thero was working dockside when an accident grievously injured him. Though he survived, it became obvious as he healed that there was lasting damage, as he continued to suffer from tremors, limping, and seizures. His family, generally not wanting their son to be seen in this state, offered him a research and bookkeeping position in their company. This was done under the pretense that it would only be until he fully healed, but it became more and more obvious that his condition would be permanent. However, in taking the job, he found he had a knack for the research and appraisal of relics and antiques. He threw himself fully into this part of the job to distract him from upset over his symptoms.

Eventually, he wanted to move professions entirely, and asked his family to pull what strings they could to get him into a Wehnan college. As his family regularly worked with a particular Har college, Esandoral's Institute for the Study of Culture, Thero was eventually able to enroll. He took to historical studies like a fish to water, and was able to leverage his practical knowledge and ties to his family's mercantile business to complement his and other students' studies.

Moving up, Thero became a professor of history at the university around his 200th birthday. Young, bright-eyed, and ever-inquisitive he was well-liked by students, though he was rarely sent abroad for field studies due to his various illnesses. Over the years he grew to resent this, bitter that he had to pull firsthand accounts through the mercantile networks available to him rather than simply going and seeing for himself. This caused a shift in his studies from Golden Age antiquity to early Age of Kings Har. Har was, at least, something he could explore to his heart's content, without people getting worried about him. But a love of the older history remained.

Once or twice through the years he acquired permission to join an expedition to a historical site or library, but this only whet his appetite for it. It was on one of these travels that he came through Braecval, and upon being put up in Glee's guest room decided to make his stay there longer than originally intended. He traded an assurance that what he'd found would allow him to finish several of his papers for additional time off, and spent the winter in Braecval, writing with Glee's enthusiastic help.

The following spring Glee confessed their feelings for him, something he'd suspected but been patient about, and within the month they were married. Thero sent what work he'd done back to the university, along with his resignation, and settled into his new life
