A simple bakery with the most delectable homemade foods, the sweetest floral china, dainty and oh-so-soft cloth napkins, colorful round tables with mismatched chairs, and small hints of greenery in clay pots. This is my beautiful, daily reality. What a place to be each day. To bake the simplest things in ways that have been forgotten in our fast-paced world.
Inside our bakery, time slows down. If you peak in the back, you may even glimpse a baker kneading dough for our freshly baked bread. Or if you round the corner of the shop outside, you’ll see another baker picking berries from our shop’s garden to start a new batch of jam.
Me? I take those ingredients and put them together into superb simplicities. You may look at our menu and think, “a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? I can make that at home.” But no, please, just try it once. I promise you’ll be back for it again.
How to make the perfect peanut butter and jelly:
INGREDIENTS:
2 slices of the softest homemade bread
1 tablespoon of chunky peanut butter
2 teaspoons of homemade strawberry jam
Optional: a sprinkle of cinnamon
DIRECTIONS:
Start with 2 slices of your homemade bread. Warm (not hot) bread is ideal, but room temperature will do. (If you begin with cold bread, your sandwich never stood a chance).
Spread 1 tablespoon of chunky peanut butter on one slice of your bread. (Your peanut butter should also be room temperature. If you refrigerate your peanut butter, I must ask why). Sprinkle the cinnamon on top of the peanut butter if you’d like. Leaving it off is also acceptable.
Spread 2 teaspoons of your homemade strawberry jam on your second slice of bread. Do not spread it on the peanut butter side, that is absolutely chaotic.
Put the slices together (PB to jam, not bread to bread…)
Slice your sandwich into four dainty, squishy triangles, and place on your FANCIEST plate. This step is very important for maximum enjoyment.
Fill a small mason jar about halfway with your choice of milk (lactose free, if need be).
Turn on some gentle background music and enjoy the perfection of this most incredible sandwich.
