When the Land of Terlond was formed, fourteen families combined their wealth and resources in hopes of creating a better world than the distant one they had abandoned.
Starry-eyed optimism was quickly murdered by the realities of human stupidity. Bickering turned to multi-generation feuds and a buildup of phenomenal weapons that threatened to wipe out what little was left of the Ancient population.
It was a Masterson (their name lost to history) who determined that this world wasn't ready for the great technological advances brought from beyond their new home's solar system. The secrets of the past were locked away and lost to time, reduced to the stuff of legends. The Alphan Line was formed to be what the fourteen-person system could not - a fair judge of disputes and a benevolent ruler.
Each Alphan selects a man or woman to serve as Alphan's Key, an individual with special knowledge that can lead them to the source of Ancient power. These secrets have been safely passed down from one Key to another for over a thousand years.
Until a power-hungry tyrant named Voorik saw fit to take Terlond by force. Immortality was within his grasp...
Until the last Key, a fifteen-year-old boy named Tauren Masterson, outwitted the tyrant and disappeared into the wilds.
Only two Mastersons remain to stand between Voorik and unimaginable suffering for Terlond. One is Tauren, the last Alphan's Key.
The other is a young artist named Alec.
