Intimidation. Obfuscation. Confusation.

Surround yourself with enormous books and people will make two assumptions about you.

One: You're a highly educated individual making an impressive six-digit figure.

Two: Unlike your run-of-the-mill private practice attorney, you have no time to waste on stupid questions that are only vaguely related to how the legal system works.

I can't suffer a fool. Maybe that's why I'm so good at my job. Most attorneys figure if they blow enough smoke, they can bore the jury into returning a favorable verdict. Death by auditory assault.

Such amateur performers are almost too easy to rip to pieces.

Then you have the rare few decent ones like my friend Attorney. He's graceful in defeat and humble in victory.

My own wife says I should follow his example more often.

I'd be a liar if I said that whole business with the Lotto Murderer didn't still sting a bit. I thought for sure I had Client two steps from the jailhouse door...only to learn that not only was the guy innocent but he'd been set up by a murderous trickster wanted in seven other states.

Judge won't just throw the book at that guy...he'll throw the entire Library of Congress.

What amazes me is that Lawyer served as that skunk's accomplice. The man is no legal hero but to disregard the justice system like that...

If he'd been willing to accept an insanity plea, I would have been tempted to offer it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to preparing for his trial. I overheard Judge complaining to someone else on the circuit that this one could take weeks to conclude.

Long trials are to me what recess is to a Kindergartner.

Fun.
