The duty of the Painter, is to create the landscape of dreams, weaving trees, rivers, buildings, objects, whatever is necessary for the dream that night. She manifests as either a cloud of colourful butterflies or a woman with grey skin and long rainbow hair (although other aspects such as height, build, features change frequently). She refers to herself as "we" and the others refer to her as "she" in human form or "they" in butterflies form. The butterfly-cloud form lets them manipulate many aspects of dream scenery at once, but they aren't very coordinated and that's why the landscape of dreams is very random and things often appear in ways that don't make sense in real life. She thoroughly enjoys her job and talks to herself while working, muttering to herself "yes that looks great! no this won't do I'll have to start all over again" going on and on, even up until the last moments when the visitor (the dreamer) is about to pass by! Around others, she speaks rapidly and sometimes gets lost in her own thoughts, as she's always thinking of new crazy ways to design something.
