It always makes me so happy to see the dear little minions I take in moving on to loving homes. Giggles has been such a joy to work with, which is no surprise. Blob kitties are by far one of my favorites. They are not only adorable but so easy to train and so compatible with cats in particular. It is always hard to say my last goodbye but I must not be selfish. Our family has quite enough household minions and at least I know the ones I place are going to good homes. Ash thinks I put too much into the applications I create for potential owners, but no minion I've cared for has ever ended up back on the street.
I give Giggles a red hair ribbon and take her leash in hand, meeting her new owner at the door. He is an illumis who lives in a gorgeous house on the east side of Riverside. I know he will see to it Giggles eats well and has plenty of toys to play with which makes it just a little easier to place the leash in his hand.
Ash comes to give me a gentle nudge and lick my ear. My littermate can always tell how I'm feeling and he knows how hard it is for me to say goodbye to anyone. He can be a little lazy at times, but he's always there when I really need him and I love him more than catnip.
He'd just better not get too pushy at playtime. He may be a little older and bigger, but that doesn't mean I can't give his ears a good bop if he deserves it!
I can hear mum getting breakfast ready, so I decide to go and keep her company for a while. The bubbly brown liquid she likes so much smells awful in my opinion, but I've often heard her say the same about the meat she feeds us. Loco would disagree perhaps, but I think humans are entitled to their opinions too. Even if they are often quite silly.
Everybody gathers around the feeding bowls. Ash is to my right, as usual. I can tell he's planning in his head the best location for the first quality nap of the day. Sam stares with longing at the cookie jar, giving mum a few hopeful mews. She's focused on the newspaper and pays him no mind but we all know he will get his cookie eventually. He's quite persistent when it comes to sweets. I think I would enjoy his company more if he weren't quite so bouncy. I do not like sudden movements, not at all. With Sam, a cat can feel their head spinning after five minutes of his company. It's all that sugar, I'm sure.
Loco leaves his dish to run yet another round of training drills. He's a brilliant fighter and I know he would take on monsters for any of us, but I must admit that he scares me a little. I truly do prefer to stay out of his way. Every once in a while he will forget himself on one of his mock hunts and even with his claws sheathed, a swat from Loco hurts.
Missy trots over to the blue sofa, a glint of mischief in her eyes. Some of her pranks are truly hilarious, as long as they are not aimed at me. I have enough to do with keeping up with my minions to worry about a ball of minion nip tied to my tail. Mum was very angry at the trail of destruction my sister's little joke caused.
Each member of my family is dear to me in their own way, but only one is a hero in my eyes.
His sleek gray pelt is always perfectly groomed without a hair out of place. His eyes are the glorious green of new grass after long winter's end. He is a leader to make mighty lions take notice and his name is Ziggy.
He hears Loco's report on the state of the yard, nodding as Loco growls over some mound of dirt he considers a threat. He hears the dispute of Missy and Sam over a catnip mouse they both want to play with. One can hardly blame them for arguing. It is a good toy that has given me many hours of fun. Sam wins this time. Ziggy very wisely points out that Missy had the mouse just yesterday.
I take my time in crossing the room, sniffing at the potted plant and studying the books on the shelf. I don't want Ziggy to notice me until our pelts are touching.
He turns his head at the gentle pressure of my fur. "Good morning, Jazz. I hope you slept well."
I offer him a brief purr, taking care not to overdo it. "I always sleep well knowing that I have done good for those unfortunate minions without homes."
"Have you found a placement for that Digger yet?"
"He left just yesterday." I can't help wrinkling my nose. Not only was Digger a canine but his coat had the most repulsive odour of musky doggy smell. "He went to live with a kumos who shares his love of dirt."
"I am sure mother is glad to have him gone. You and your brother do wonderful work, dear Jazz." He tilts his head, no doubt thinking of great and important matters only leaders care to think about. "I hope you will excuse me."
Even the way he leaps atop the door arch is dignified! He is the most beautiful cat I have ever known but he will never see me as more than a little sister.
With a sigh, I turn back toward the toy room. There is no time to feel sorry for myself when there are still minions in need of loving homes.
