Shout out to May for letting me adopt Starla! ♥
Long ago, when Subeta was young, the night sky was oppressively dark and lonely, with only the waxing and waning moon to light it. The inhabitants had candles to light their nights when the moon was small, but a candle's meek glow could only do so much. The way the dancing flames cast shadows on walls often left children going to bed scared, which made it hard to fall asleep, and moonless nights became associated with nightmares.

On the nights of a full moon, little Starla would gaze out of her window, and thank the moon for its welcoming glow.

However, on nights of a new moon, Starla would hide under her blanket and jump at every little creak of a floorboard, every gust of wind that shook the trees outside, and she'd struggle to sleep for being scared of the dark. Even her pet, a little Sparalis she named Nightlight, couldn't help her fall asleep, despite offering a lovely glow in the dark room.

One night, during a new moon, while the sky was empty, Starla woke with a start, shivering in cold sweat under her blanket as she regained her bearings. Nightlight whimpered softly, nudging Starla gently with her little nose as if to inquire whether she was okay. Upon realizing it was just a bad dream, Starla took a deep breath, and let relief wash over her.

She then clasped her hands and lifted them to her face, whispered into the dark, "I wish for a way to be less afraid of the night." and simply hoped that there was someone, somewhere, who could hear her small voice.

Suddenly, the window of her room contained a faint glow, and she peeked out from under her blanket to see the night sky full of little sparkling specks of light, and she let out a small gasp as she scrambled towards her window for a better look.

No moon in sight, and yet, all across the black canvas of night, tiny shimmering lights were scattered, reminding Starla of the way the sunlight dances on water.

Those pinpricks of light...
came to be known as stars.
