A traveler was walking through the woods. He had lost his way some time ago, but he hoped if he kept walking, he would eventually recognize something that would lead him back to his path. And he’d better find the path soon, he thought to himself, as the sun was starting to go down.

As he walked, the trees seemed to become less dense, and just as he was about to lose hope, he came across a path. He didn’t recognize it from his earlier hike, but a path was a path so he eagerly began to follow it. It was twilight now, and the woods took on a naturally creepy appearance. He began to see shadows out of the corners of his eyes, but he shook his head. He was probably just suffering from exhaustion.

But then he began to hear noises from the woods. Snuffling, and twigs breaking, things he couldn’t write off as normal. And the shadow. It wouldn’t leave his side. Until it took off, speeding ahead of him. The traveler was so tired, he could barely muster any terror.

Until he looked up the path. And saw the shadow, sitting right in the middle, blocking his way. There was no way around it without striking off into the woods on his own.

He got closer, and it was enormous. It was terrifying. It was... a giant bumbus? He only had a little moonlight to see by but... yes, it was an extremely large bumbus, staring at him with its head in its hands.

“Hello human, how convenient that we should cross paths this evening,” the bee growled in a raspy voice. “I believe that we both, perhaps, have something the other needs. Myself, I believe I am blocking the path to civilization, and my dear- you are so very close to home. You, well, you look very tasty and it’s been oh so long since I last had a good meal. So, perhaps, a deal? You answer my riddle correctly, I will let you travel onwards. Answer wrong, and well, let’s just say... you and I can taco ‘bout it!” She burst into raucous laughter, cackling at her own joke. The traveler let out a nervous (and confused) chuckle.

“Okay, okay, okay,” wheezed the bumbus. “Here it is: How much money does a pirate pay for corn?”

The traveler wracked his brains. What could it be? He knew that sphinx riddles usually had an answer like “man” or “time” or “death”, but what on earth could this be? After a few minutes of thinking, and the bumbus tapping her toes impatiently, he answered.

“A dollar”

The bumbus narrowed her eyes, observing him. Then a grin started to cross her face.

“A buccaneer!” she chortled, clearly finding herself hilarious. “You’re wrong, buddy! This dinner, it’s going to be dine-amite!” With that, she was falling over herself laughing.

The traveler began to run. He had to get away, as far away from this lunatic as he possibly could.

He heard crashing on the path behind him. It was getting closer. And closer. He looked behind him, and while he wasn’t looking, managed to trip over a rock in the middle of the path. He fell.

The bumbus towered over him.

“Don’t worry human, it’s nacho problem anymore!” she cackled as she dug into his soft flesh.
