Seren has a minion!

Rumble the Roiling Storm Matter

Rain.

A bright flash of light.

The accompanying clap of thunder.

The gray clouds that blotted out the adoring sun.

... Emptiness.

This was the only word she could find to describe the void in her heart.

Seren gazed blankly around her at the garden that was her own creation, blinking as the rain kissed her cheeks, her thoughts tangled in knots as she watched droplets of water drip off of the tip of a leaf.

Try as she might, she couldn't prevent herself from filling up with sorrow at the thought of him, he who she had loved more dearly than the earth she nurtured. He who had given his life for the salvation of millions. He who had given her his heart, his smiles, and his warmth.

Balder, Seren thought, raising her face to the sky, praying for a break in the clouds so she could find the sun, I miss you more than there are words to describe. She didn't even care that the rain cascaded into her eyes, eyes that were somehow dry after finally emptying the seemingly bottomless reservoir of tears.

Tears which now showered out of the sky in the form of rain.

Rain that concealed her sight from the sun that Balder had given the world.

She was Seren, Goddess of the Moon and Tide.

He had been Balder, God of the Sun and Sight.

Balder had been a highly respected and revered God amongst the Divine Entities of the world. He had been a peace keeper, a word of reason and compromise, and an admirer of kindness and compassion. He gave his own sight in order to create the sun, which sheds the light that allows the world to see.

She could hardly believe that he was gone.

Yes, in this world, Gods can be born, bleed, and be killed, just like mortals. The only thing that sets them apart is their endless life spans and infinite Divine power. Power that they are born with, as is their birthright, but can also be seized and sealed by others of their kind.

Seren did not know the whole story. Only pieces. She knew that Balder had been killed by his own brother, and she knew that it had been a misunderstanding on his behalf. Unfortunately, the brother was also killed out of spite, before he could explain himself or seek redemption.

All Seren could think to do was create a garden in the most peaceful place she could find on their bloodstained world, have hope that one day the bloodshed would stop, and maybe if she prayed hard enough, that someday no one else would have to feel the same lonely void that she felt from losing someone she had loved.

The mortals often say that time heals all wounds, and insist that it includes the emotional ones. But Seren is not mortal. And so she wonders....

... will time be able to calm the storm in her heart?
