I would not be another.

I would not be another pair of boots on that rack. A handbag. A clutch.
I wasn't going to be degraded to something materialistic. I would not become something with a price tag. To become nothing more than pieces to a wardrobe. I would rather die.

And I did.

But it's better now; my marvelous scales can't be harvested. Patches of my body have rot and decayed. Most of my glorious flesh has flaked off, and can't be taken from me. I may be a corpse - and I may be disgusting, as my bones protrude and I rot from the inside - but I am happy now.

Even if the occasional dog or bird of prey tries to chew me up and strip my bones, it just adds to the damage of my scales, and makes me less desirable. No disgusting poacher will want me now. They can't make a fucking outfit out of me.
