All Good Things by Dollfie
The wind moved invisibly over the open expanse of grass, each blade bending causing the field to undulate as though it were alive. It was a beautiful evening, calm and peaceful with no clouds to cover the sky which was just beginning to be lit up by stars. Taking full advantage of the serene setting, a lone celinox nestled himself into the tall, lush greenery. The ground was soft and warm beneath his stomach and paws, lulling him into a light sleep.
Just as complete unconsciousness was about to take him, there was a faint rustle of movement not too far away. Annoyed, the celinox lifted it’s head up to locate the source of his irritation. After a moment the sound ceased and he rolled onto his side. After licking down a fickle, silver tuft of fur on his shoulder, he stretched out his legs and began to fall back asleep. Moments later the same noise reached his ears, calling him out of his obliviousness. This time he righted himself and scanned the area more carefully. He didn’t expect an attack or anything so serious but he was quite curious as to what the source of the persistent sound was.
“Bellaius…â€
Someone spoke his name, someone behind him. The voice was a woman’s, the tone pure and gentle. While his first reaction would normally have been to panic, her cadence had a powerful soothing effect. Calmly, he stood and turned to face his unknown visitor.
Standing a few feet away was a young girl. Instantly he was entranced by her appearance. Her pink and turquoise gown floated around her as if Subeta’s gravity had no effect. The various gold jewelry she wore glittered brilliantly despite the fact that night had fallen. While her body and face resembled that of a child, her eyes and the quality of her voice said something entirely different. Even though Bellaius had never laid eyes on her before, he knew she was the Oracle without a doubt.
Detecting his puzzlement she spoke again. “Yes… I am the Oracle, I have come to apologize to you on behalf of Shinwa… and myself.†Seconds passed as she attempted to gather herself. The information the Oracle was about to deliver weighed heavily on her heart but she pushed on. It was the right thing to do, the only thing to do. “A war is coming. Maleria has built an unstoppable army that she will soon unleash in an attempt to take over Subeta. Normally I would not tell a soul of their future but the fates once decided that you would be the hero of this world… that has since changed but I feel it is my obligation to offer you something in return for the bravery you will not get a chance to prove.â€
His perplexed state had altered into one of slight fear. Why wouldn’t he get a chance to show his courage and save Subeta and could he have really done all that she suggested in the first place? It seemed so impossible. All Bellaius ever did was laze about and enjoy his surroundings, what could he possibly have to offer Shinwa in her eternal battle with the Dark Goddess? Perhaps it didn’t really matter because now he would never know.
Interrupting his whirling mind, the Oracle continued. “I have the power to bring you nothing but fortune for your remaining days. Sadly in the war you will be killed, not by the enemy but mistakenly by the forces of good.â€
Utterly horrified, he sat back onto his haunches, his legs weak and trembling as if he would collapse entirely. The Oracle looked sadly upon him and raised her staff. As if creating the dawn itself, the staff began to glow and sent a shimmering aura swirling around the galactic celinox. At the peak of it’s intensity, Bellaius’ chest began to glow and a star-like crystal materialize from his body. The light blue gem then floated over to the Oracle’s open hand where it disappeared from sight. Gradually the radiance from the aura faded and everything was seemingly as it was before.
“You have now been blessed and I have also taken back the Amulet of Destiny that was supposed to guide you in your heroic efforts. From now on your remaining days will be filled with good luck. Hopefully it will help ease the pain of what you have lost and will lose. I must go now but I wish you well.†Her task complete, she lifted into the sky, magically propelled by her single wing and before long she had disappeared completely.
Distraught, Bellaius fell to the earth. Understandably the celinox was in shock and initially he determined he had just had a horrible dream, a nightmare. But over the next few days he gathered himself, bringing together the pieces of what the Oracle had said that night until everything made sense. Mind you it was a distorted logic but the increasingly good fortune that followed him around only seemed to reinforce the happenings. Instead of relenting to the fates, he decided to try to fight them. If the Amulet of Destiny had once earned him a place in history, then perhaps some other item could change whatever it was that had altered his fate in the first place. Determined to save his life and correct his future, Bellaius began searching all of Subeta for the key to his survival.
