History
Most people, if asked, would say that they have indeed heard of Cain. As in, Cain and Abel, from the Bible. However, a certain facet of that particular story is not well known, though those who do know it, undoubtedly believe it.For those who don't know the commonly known Biblical tale of Cain and Abel, it goes as such:
Adam and Eve had two children, Cain and Abel. When the boys got older, Abel offered to God his best livestock and the best of his crops, while Cain offered his sickly sheep and smaller less bountiful crops. God was displeased and praised Abel while berating Cain.
Cain grew jealous of his brother and lured him out into the field at night where he killed Abel to bury him among the crops.
When he was confronted by God later, Cain became indignant and angered God. To punish Cain for his wrong doing, he placed upon him the 'Mark of Cain' so that he should forever walk the Earth, which would never be fruitful for him again.
The mark was also said to mean that no one should help, nor harm him. His curse was his to bear alone. To keep anyone from harming him, God made it so that if anyone should try to harm him, they should suffer sevenfold. As a result, he cannot be killed.
The lesser known facet of this curse was that Cain was originally meant for him to wander at night for the sun rejected him as well as many natural aspects of nature. God said murder, especially of one's own family was unnatural, and so his soul should reflect that. To top everything off, he could no longer survive on food or water alone. His thoughts and cravings were now overcome with the need for fresh human blood.
Cultures across the world have come up with many names and histories behind what he had become. But the closest known story is that which is written in the Bible.
Thus was borne...the first Vampire.
