Having a body is hard. Learning to care for it. Learning to be tender. The weight is so uncomfortable when all you want to do is dance on the wind; disappear into the breeze...
Wanting to disappear is easy. Exhale yourself until there's nothing left. Even the parts of you that others once loved - perhaps still love - must go.
Eventually I wound up somewhere strange & new. Here I found someone in the dark. He taught me to rethink the seperation that had festered between my flesh & bones. Slowly I began to dig out the blackness. He stayed by me, silent & bright. Patient. Waiting.
The final emptiness left me exhausted. I was hollow - unknown to myself. Upon his suggestion I started planting seeds in my soul. It was hard work. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep going. Sometimes i just wanted to give up. He pushed me with care. Eventually a garden grew.
I am heavier now; bound to the earth through the roots of my understanding. Sometimes it still makes me sick. The wind still has its voice, and on special days it still beckons me to cut myself free. Tempted as I might be, I sing instead like it does, with lips and hands that refuse to tremble anymore.
I have found my noise in the silence. It's a gentle thing, but it's mine.
And like a candle in the wind, for now, I keep standing,
