Imagine being abandoned..

by the family that raised you as a baby. Imagine not being told where they were going, not being able to contact them to see how they were or why they left you behind. Sure, it hurt, but that pain is just a distant memory. Now imagine a new family claiming residence in your territory. I wondered who could these people be, but they wouldn't stop me from entering my own home. How dare that strange brunette woman toss me out time and time again. Interesting enough, a little blonde girl that was a part of the family warmed up to me in an instant. She provided me a box with a blanket on the porch to keep me cozy, she even gave me dishes of food and water that I no longer received from my family long gone. She comforted me and fought for my rights to their abode. One winter, the brunette woman left, they say she went to visit family that lived far away. The little girl welcomed me in to the home during that time. She convinced the head of the household, a tall man with bulky glass accessories for his eyes, that I shouldn't be in the cold. He allowed me to take refuge in what was now their home. For that, I would have to be eternally grateful. When the brunette woman returned home, it was three against one after I had also won over the freckled redhead she deemed her son. Eventually I grew on the brunette woman, but what a silly woman she was. She believed I was a female and often told the rest of the family how my outdoor escapades and a disappearance for days involved caring for the kittens I had bore, presumably not trusting the family enough to bring my kittens home, how amusing of her to assume. The freckled boy was a menace, he spun me around on a piece of wood they had hung from the tree out front for his friend's amusement, that is why I left. However, my bond with the little blonde girl was strong. She sought me out after having witnessed the cruel display from her bedroom, she offered to keep me safe from such dangers, and so I stayed by her side. The girl stepped in to save me every time, even the time I was up against three dogs. I do think they just wanted to play, but the girl would not stand for the rough housing they put me through. She wasn't afraid of the damage they may inflict on her, she was my protector under any circumstances. We cuddled at night and she called me a prince, we were best friends. When she left that home, she did not hesitate to bring me to the next. She wasn't like the other humans, my last family, she was kind and caring. She often told me she couldn't live without me. She was a ray of sunshine, but there were days her eyes would rain with such force, and on those days I lapped up the water to comfort her as she had done for me. I watched her grow from a little girl to a woman, she found a prince of her own species and produced a beautiful spawn. Despite this, never once did she forget about me. She held me in high regards, I was glad to share our home with her growing family. She even disciplined the youngling when they were still learning how to handle a creature of my stature, though she did not need to, I stood up for myself when need be. Seeing what a wonderful family she had, I knew my blonde companion of 17 years had a plethora of love in the palm her hands. She didn't grant me permission to leave this existence, but inevitably my body grew too weary for my soul to be contained in it any longer. I still watch over her, waiting for the day she is able to come to my new home. It will be my turn to welcome her.. ♡
