Mallory can come off as standoffish and a bit intimidating, but she is more socially awkward and introverted than truly antisocial. Her appreciation for all things gothic and dark was born largely from a youthful need to be seen as different, combined with her insecurity making her want to seem unapproachable. (In her mind, it makes more sense to be seen as an outcast than to try to make friends; that way, if people don't like her, she can say it's because she's sort of weird and different, not because she's unlikable or too scared to try.)

After finding herself in the Digital World, she gained a partner befitting of her appreciation for the dark: Tsukaimon, a virus-attribute Digimon. Tsukaimon is a troublemaker, mischievous and a bit of a bully, no matter how much Mallory tries to correct its bad behavior. Her natural kindness is made obvious by the way she treats the Digimon; while initially scared (and sometimes still a bit frightened of them, in all honesty), she was quick to accept them as living creatures and treat them with respect, and she is perhaps he most attentive to their well-being of anyone in their group.
