The long-suffering middle child of her family, Penny was always more introverted than her brothers, preferring the company of machines to people. Her interest in technology started earlier than she can remember and she is a talented programmer for the age of fourteen.

She was frightened but excited when she woke up in the Digital World; dangerous as it may be, she'd longed for a change from the mundane suffering of everyday life. She couldn't help but be disappointed when her Digimon partner turned out to be the happy-go-lucky Muchomon.

The partners couldn't be more opposite: where Penny is reserved and depressed, Muchomon is energetic and full of life. She found it annoying for a stretch of time (especially when it would try to cheer her up with its samba dancing) but has begrudgingly begun to respect Muchomon, after witnessing its evolution into the much more intimidating Kokatorimon. She feels a little bad for underestimating the bird for so long and, secretly, has come to enjoy her partner's cheerful demeanor and even its dancing -- not that she'd ever admit it.
