Lettice Lefèvre.
Practicing witch / baker, who owns The Dollhouse Café & Bakery (as well as the two bedroom apartment above), from which she sells enchanted cakes and sweet desserts; one might order a slice of sponge and experience fantastic good luck that day, or sit down with a plate of macarons that elicit only the happiest of thoughts. The Dollhouse has a small but loyal customer base - many of which know Lettice by name - and are always warmly received by the owner and her resident barista (and flatmate), coffee aficionado Grimmshaw Sykes. Also in residence is Lettice's familiar, Crumpet, who chooses to be perceived as a mild mannered-but-lazy scottish fold cat -- a regular feature on any cushioned surface within the café.

Lettice is also a fervent gardener; the modest swathe of concrete above her home and the café is used as a rooftop garden, a small slice of lush green against an otherwise dull city backdrop. Her favourite flowers - sunflowers, golden faces proudly held high - line the building limits, with appropriated containers (repurposed furniture, buckets, even wellington boots) full of life; strawberry plants hung from an older painters' ladder, bright purple campanulas spring from an old chest of drawers, a trio of tulips in a cracked teapot (chintzy designs still visible). There's a bench there too, pressed against the far wall under a wisteria-covered arbor, where both occupants curl up in the evenings with tea, wrapped loosely in one of Lettice's many patchwork quilts, brainstorming new recipe ideas - for both cakes and enchantments.

"Oh, not sure what to get today? We've got some new goodies out since you were last here - you know what I'm like, just can't sit still when it comes to my cakes! Grimmshaw convinced me I needed to try out cruffins - croissant muffins, who'd have thought! - so we trialled a couple new flavours: we've got classic blueberry vanilla with a light blueberry jam filling, or there's the sourdough chocolate with layers of cocoa butter, topped with cocoa nibs for extra nutty crunch. They'll both leave you with a smile, whichever you choose!

"Hey - if neither of those take your fancy, I've just finished glazing a batch of doughnuts? We've got baked matcha - yeah, they're green, but they're good! - raspberry ripple jelly, plain sugar ring... I think there might be a couple of mandazi around here somewhere too. Can't beat a fresh doughnut and a coffee, you know - soothes all woes. That's what my barista says, anyway!

"Still undecided? Ha, I know the feeling. Maybe a slice of our extra dark chocolate brownie? Comes with tamarind salted caramel drizzle - warming flavours to ease out all those aches and pains. I also just got my lemon drizzle bundt cake out of the oven ready to slice, so if you're happy to wait a couple of minutes I can get you some of that - I hear lemon's one of those good-luck flavours, right? You never know!
