Have you seen it, Preciouss? That filthy little tricksy hobbit that's been creeping about? He stole our Luminaire present, didn't he, Preciouss. We hates him, yes we do, Preciouss. What was his name, Preciouss? Was it Baggins....? We hates Baggins, don't we Preciouss?
But what is this? Somebody come to see us, Preciouss? Do they have pocketses, Preciouss? Could they have our Luminaire present hiding in their pocketses?

Greetings traveller. I will not ask how you found me - I know that Halfling has told you where to find me. But I don't suppose he asked you to bring an item for me, by any chance? No? Are you absolutely sure? Maybe you should go back and check with him first.... but then again, maybe you should stay for a while - it's cold out there tonight, and the White Face is up at the moment. Yes, It's better that you sit here a while and rest.

I can see it Preciouss, it has got pocketses.... but what has it got in its pocketses, we wonder.... yes Preciouss, we wonder. Is it our present, Preciouss? Has that filthy Baggins returned our Luminaire present? Maybe we ought to look, Preciouss. Maybe we will find our Luminaire present in their pocketses.

No don't start rummaging through your pockets, you're making yourself look nervous. You're much safer here in the cave than outside with the White Face. Maybe if I was to let you stay here until the White Face has dropped in the sky, you might do something for me in return? It is nothing too challenging, but shelter for the night must come at a price, no matter how small.

Creep closer, Preciouss.... its pocketses are almost in reach. Keep it talking, Preciouss, we can't let it get away. It might have our Luminaire present in its pocketses.

If you back away now, you will be in full sight of the White Face. But it's your choice - I cannot force you to do anything, more's the pity. If you shelter in the cave, I will ask you to pay Baggins a visit, with the message "Preciouss wants his Luminaire present returned". If you choose to not shelter, you can go your own way, but there are nasty Orcs in the hills that might just want a tasty human for supper.

What has it got in its pocketses?

Gollum / Smeagol

Preciouss has informed me that some people have not read the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, and have not even seen the films! So, in the interest of the sanity of those people, here is a (very) brief explanation of what's going on here.
Preciouss is based on Gollum, who is distantly related to the Hobbit race. He has has two personas - Gollum and Smeagol, or as Sam describes them, "Stinker and Slinker".
Gollum is under the control of the Ring, and has a nonsensical rambling style of speech; I've tried to keep that as similar as I can.
Smeagol is Gollum's "normal" self, and is depicted here in italics, with a CI image to the side of each paragraph.

Some of the words Gollum uses in the books are of his own invention, such as "white face" for the moon, and I've tried to include at least some of those, to give Preciouss' story a truly Hobbit-feel.

If you're still confused, then I strongly recommend you go to the nearest library and take out Lord of the Rings to read, or get the Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit on DVD!
