Coming Soon to the Antique Shop: Reading Drive Prizes
A big shipment is coming to the Antique Shop soon! On October 1st all of the Reading Drive prizes will be added to the Antique Shop. Don\'t worry, the prices will be much more reasonable than those pricy pirate and expensive island items were.
You will have until 11:59pm on September 30th to spend your Reading Drive points. However, this time you will not be able to cash out remaining points after the conversion. So spend your points now, or they\'ll be gone forever!
If you have any remaining pirate or islander points to convert, you\'ll also need to do this by September 30th, as this option will disappear and any remaining points will be deleted then, too.

Sooooooo how bout that newsletter/email for this? This is really one of the more pathetic/mishandled things the site has done in a while, and that's saying something with the brew voting having just finished.
SMDH... every time I think Subeta might be learning/doing it right.

Why should we have another Reading Drive if the prizes will be available for sP purchase in the Antique Shop??
"Deleting" books from the site in exchange for event currency is stupid. Just ask any serious battler.

If the reading drive is being cancelled/changing, will we also be able to buy the achievement prizes that came with it (i.e. or in the Crystal shop or elsewhere?

Been AFK for awhile and came back to this today. The prices in the Antique Shop? Seriously?

I really hope the reading drives aren't cancelled permanently. The last time had new changes made to it that seemed to give it more involvement from everyone on the site and feedback was requested - why all the effort if only to cancel? The Holiday Shop and the Reading Drive were/are(?) my favourite parts of the site. I understand improvement and progress, but don't leave some of us behind, please!

Ok I think I got it. My concerns weren't ever with the prices of items in the antique shop but with the fact that users are left with two poor options to either lose all the points we worked to get or buy a bunch of items we don't really want. Though it seems you guys regret the ability to cash out points it did start a precedent and kind of sucks that it's not going to be an option

I'm all for more limited releases especially in ways they're earned rather than bought so it gets more people trading, profiting, money flowing around etc... But sinks are always good, just not always the best option :D
Either way though as long as it's being taken into account and eventually it will be settled, I'm content for now :D Thanks, @Ariel

I think my use of the word conversion wasn't the best. All I'm saying is that the price of items included in the antique shop will vary with each release depending on the current price of the items, how long ago they were released, etc. We probably shouldn't have even let people cash out points last time, so we aren't going to do it again.
@Mike
We're considering ways to rerelease other items like that! Some may end up in the crystal shop, some may in the antique shop, it really just depends.

What is the fate of the achievement/non-point based pries related to things going into the antique shop. The maelstrom/mana surge scrolls have been much discussed on the bcc with the re-release of pirate challengers and personally I've been trying for months on end to find a seller for a Thunderball (RD achievement prize).

The sp conversion will depend on a lot of things for each group of items added. We're hoping to be able to keep it an across-the-board ratio for each group of items (it worked out almost perfectly with the pirate/islander items, we punched so many numbers and it was almost identical to the market value for the vast majority of items), but not all of these items are going to be worth the same.

You also have the fact that if you just magically get a lot of sP and achieve your goals or some of them, your play time may go down (page views, cash shop purchases etc) or you just may lose interest all together. There are many reasons and I can go into more but you get the idea.

You're ignoring the fact that this site gives out sP as if its candy in the first place. With the reading drive points being more common you'd be introducing an insane amount of sP into the economy. Quests already do this to an extreme amount. Coming from an economic stand point this would suck really hard for the pseudo-economy this site has. Either the points were too common to do this or they realised what they did last time was bad for the economy and changed their policies.

I don't see how that really changes things? You can make each point worth less sP as they're making the items cheaper in the shop but you can still give the exchange of sP for points

Ok but by doing the sP conversion the first time they set up a precedent that seemed to say ok this is how this shop is going to work. Now the only option is lose all the points you worked hard to get or buy a bunch of junk you don't really want

I really hope these won't be as insanely priced as the pirate items. I understand that they'll be expensive, but hopefully not as expensive.

Like a lot of people I have mixed feelings about this. Even though I've never participated in one I definitely think there should be more than 8 days to use those points, because I know I've gone much longer than that without playing and I have no idea what the newsletter even is so it'd be highly unlikely I'd find out about the retirement. And even though its been a long time since the last one I'd always hoped fervently that the Reading Drive would happen again, because I've managed to miss the times this event happen and when I found out about it sounded fun. :-(
On the other hand...cool items. Easier to get cool items...

Awhile back, I returned from a hiatus to my reading drive points wiped out, and when I submitted a ticket, it sounded like everyone's had expired and been wiped. Mine were irretrievable. So finding out that everyone's actually had theirs this whole time leaves me pretty bitter from the effort I originally put into mine.

Just spent my last 9 points. :) As someone who was here for both reading drives I'm pretty excited for this!

That's cool, as someone who wasn't around for the last drive I'm pretty happy at a chance to grab some of these items from a shop. While I'm glad they're not going to be as expensive as the pirate/islander stuff (yikes) - I hope they're not too cheap either.

This was so totally not worth the effort and sP I put into this event, especially now that everything will be cheaper! :( Now I have to rush and spend my points? UGH!

I get that re-releasing these things in the future is not avoidable but at least make it a random/seasonal thing. People worked hard for these items, like spending a lot to get multiple items from the last drive I assume. Having them there 24/7 isn't a good idea and kind alienates people that worked hard and have been here a long time (your core user base) I think? :/

I would rather know the prices first then spending my points on something that may not be worth it at all since it will be 'given away' compared to the effort/sP it took to get the points

I feel like this is really short notice to use/sell our RD things/points, it's not exactly easy deciding where to use 1000+ points, and it doesn't help that the suggestion is pricing will be a LOT lower? u__u;;

I'm not positive, but I feel like I have more points than I would have gotten in one drive. I know there was some discussion before the last drive, but it may have been about books, not points, resetting.
Regardless, the points resetting or not is a small part of it. The RD being a long time ago is more of a reason to be concerned about less active users, not less. And the Pirate/Islander war was even longer ago and it was treated with more care.

Apparently it did glitch but went through. Still concerning to read when clicking things! Especially soon to be done away with rare things that you can't regain your points for and only have so many days to have things sorted out if there is a problem. Glad it went through though

"Fatal error: Call to a member function update() on a non-object in /www/subeta.net/games/reading_prizes.php on line 38" not really sure what to do about that or was I wrong that I have a point left to spend? I don't remember if I converted my pirate points to sp or not, and retired currencies are no longer on the vault page. Is there a way I can check whether or not I have already converted mine?
Also, thanks for the heads up on the reading drive points. Now comes the hard part: decisions.

The expensive prizes almost always take more than one drive's worth of points to complete (unless you're crazy and turn in every book on-site or something). RDs haven't been officially canceled (even now! People are just presuming that's the case due to this announcement).
They've had time, yes, but when it's something like this that encourages saving because it's the same currency every time that argument is a lot less valid.
The RS war points were saved and that argument would really apply there (since each war has gotten it's own currency) so even Subeta's precedent is lacking.

@Tribunal the last reading drive was two years ago. 8 days or one month won't make much of a difference in this case because everyone has had plenty of time to spend all their points.

Also, newsletter != email blast. Someone who hasn't been playing might or might not read a newsletter.
For example, just today I got an email from OneDrive, that they're removing a feature. The subject line is: "Important message from One Drive about your _feature_". I also have 3+ weeks to react. That's just... normal.

Last I checked the newsletter -still- has issues going out to everyone, and someone who's not even semi-actively playing isn't exactly checking social media either so that's really a non-sequitur. If you don't see why losing points is a big deal, then you really don't see the feedback given most times there's a RD - it's a massive sP sink/sacrifice, and people feel the need to save up points over the years.
Sorry, but I still -heavily- disagree. It's one thing to do things expediently. It's another entirely to do them too hastily. The recycle beast still has the damn Peekaboo items ffs... Subeta's 'default' is 'you have plenty of time'. As it should be. It's a casual game. 8 days is a ridiculous turnaround for something so permanent.
A month would be way more reasonable, without being so far in the future it'll be forgotten or anything like that.

@Tribunal We’re deleting the points of the pirate/islander points at the same time as reading drive. We’re doing a newsletter to talk about our holidays coming up, limited time things like pirate challengers and these points. We’re also putting this out on social media (twitter, FB). It's not like they're loosing the ability to get the items from the shop, if they come back they'll just have to spend sP on them rather than their points.

A newsletter is only part of it.. not everyone checks email.. idk, I just feel like the Islander/Pirate timeframe was a lot less strict and even if I'm remembering wrong and it wasn't, it didn't -delete- the points at the end of it.
I'm only on because the Keelhauliday shop started cooperating... I'm a semi-active player and I might be at risk for losing my RD points forever. That's messed up.

8 days!? Man I feel bad for anyone who doesn't log in in time. The last RD was a long time ago, it's not unreasonable that someone might not be playing.
You guys should reallly send these in an email blast, and give like a months notice, minimum. It'd be a great way to potentially retain players as well.
OR you should at least make a one-time redeem for items option, some way, if you're going to do short notice like this.
